this is likely what i'm going to do. if i didn't have everything already wired behind the tv i'd consider the ceiling mount. looks like it will be a project for this weekend.

Yeah, you really don't need a hammer drill for something like this. I definitely could have used one but my drill is a pretty powerful plug in model and with a half inch masonry bit it did the job. A little slower than if I had a hammer drill but I got it done. Don't go with a cordless drill unless you have a new, powerful one, at a full charge. Those things always crap out on me at the worst time so I bought two extension cords and I can get anywhere on my property with any power tool now.

Tell that to my 20v Max Dewalt Hammerdrill.

(But it is new like you said)

I was wondering if I needed a masonry bit when I drilled into that brick. It was like butter.

Side note. Costco has the drill I have (Top of the line Dewalt 20v Hammerdrill) and 20v Impact for like 220.

Like this LINK

Apparently they went down in price.

Put it up yesterday. Bought a dewalt 8 amp rotary corded drill ($60). Drilled into brick. Basic masonary drill bits dulled quickly and I would recommend the higher quality ones that work with both rotary and hammer drills. I probably spent around $40 on bits. I used a sanus mount that was $90 at best buy. Took about 4 hrs including 2 trips to Home Depot. It could easily be done under an hour if you have everything you need. Even with buying a new drill I came out ahead vs paying best buy $350. It's a samsung 50 in btw.

Nice work.... A hammer drill would have kept you from eating up the bits as much, but you ended up with a new drill instead of renting a hammer drill, so you came out ahead

Yeah it would have been easier with a hammer drill. Once I started using a better bit it only took about a minute per hole.

For future reference, don't waste money on overpriced TV mounts.

I've had this one for 5 years without issue.
