For most people a router is fine.
If I were dead set on buying a firewall I would buy a Sonicwall.
You won't be able to buy the cheapest one though because once you turn on all the security services it will limit your max internet speed.
You need to keep in mind what speed you are paying for and shop specs carefully.
Also remember that pretty much any firewall you buy you will need to pay yearly maintenance to keep the security services up to date.

For most home users the normal firewall + NAT is plenty. Is there a particular reason you need a different firewall?

Any reason you are looking for a firewall for a home network? I'm a Network Engineer and you can find yourself with an unessary headache real quick.
NAT/PAT gonna be a decent protection.
I've seen people using pfsense at home but I've never bothered

I've been using a Ubiquity ER Lite 3. Plenty of horsepower for my fiber connection. Runs Vyatta os, good firewall, easy to configure the VPN back to the office on it. Price was right (less than $100). But I do this for a living, so it may be a bit more complicated than a Linksys.
