re: Let's talk Battery Life on Cell Phones

Cell Phones are using strong processors these days that use up a lot of energy. Battery companies are finding it hard to find ways to squeeze out the most out of these batteries. It's not easy for them to just make it better
I guess it's just a bit surprising with all the stuff we can do nowadays, there can't be a small sized battery with more capabilities.

A small nuclear reactor inside the phone battery would be the answer.

And again, you guys are focusing way too much on me on the "1 day" thing. I'm speaking in general.
And we can't figure out wtf you're focusing on.
Batteries today probably hold twice as much juice by weight as batteries from 10 years ago. Problem is, phones of today use 10 times more power than phones of 10 years ago. Bottom line is what we want out of our devices increases much more rapidly than battery tech can advance.
What are you talking about the moon landing for? The phone in your pocket has more power than ALL OF NASA had when they put a man on the moon. And I bet they used a bit more power than what's in your phone battery, too.
Are you complaining that tech isn't advancing fast enough? What are you asking?

my iPhone 5 battery won't even last a full day
granted I use it a lot for work including conference calls and what not
if you use GPS on an iPhone it takes a full % off your battery every minute or 2…if you needed to use your GPS the entire way for a 4 hour car ride you'd be screwed without a charger
would be nice to have a smartphone that would last 16 straight hours at full capacity.

quote:Yes, yes it is. It also has nothing to do with the question I asked though lol.
25 is more than 24....
Also, I talk for maybe 5 minutes a month on my phone, so that's not where my battery use is coming from.

I've only said it and reiterated it 5 or more times on the previous page. I also pointed out that I'm not the most tech-savvy dude in the world so I made it rather clear from the outset, that it was pretty much more of me just not understanding the issue to begin with.

2. I asked it in no uncertain terms in my very first post. If you can't understand a very obvious question, I don't think it would be worth both of our times for me to try to ask it in a different way.

I dont understand why people are needing of a cell battery lasting longer than a day
This.
I would prefer that phone makers spend their time on other things. You can't have everything so IMO, focus on something that actually is a problem/need.
If you have an iPhone, most likely you're plugging it in every night so iCloud can back up your stuff (and so podcasts can download).
If you need juice during the day, get a Galaxy with a removable back and buy a second battery. Or get a Nexus 5 with wireless charging.
Lots of solutions that are better than manufactures forgoing development in other areas.

we can't make a battery that'll last longer than 1 day, if that?

Again, I kinda understood it from the get go, plus it was explained in this thread, some of the reasons. For me it's just more of a, "Hmm, you'd think we could create smaller batteries that would last longer than needing to carry around 2 batteries to get through a day." That's really about it, all I was getting at.

No it doesn't. I have a Galaxy S4. I NEVER turn off GPS. Took the phone off the charger at 7:00am and still at 77% battery life.
This is with Wifi and Bluetooth on as well.

The one where you want a battery to last between 24 and 72 hours...? I show you a list of ones that already last between 15-600..

If I turn off 4G and set my resolution to 30%, I can get a solid 2 days on my GS3. With heavy browsing(chrome and groupme) and brightness at 50%, I can kill it in 2-3hrs
Posted on 5/28/14 at 1:09 pm to shel311
all i require is that it lasts a day on heavy use. I charge every night anyway.

I get where you're coming from. It is definitely possible, but the question is how much time/money/resources so you want to throw at it.
Keep in mind, when we went to the moon we were pretty damned motivated. Had to stay ahead if those commie bastards

Look, don't be a smartass with me because you don't understand the multiple answers to your question that you've already gotten, yet keep asking the same dumb question.
A battery can only hold so much charge per weight. Even though this "energy density" is steadily improving, it is not improving as fast as we are inventing new ways to use the juice. It's that fricking simple.
So to answer your question once again, we could very easily build a cell phone that lasts a month on one charge. Problem is, it would be the size of a breadbox, and 98% of it would be the battery.
Does that answer your question?
