So told the wife id replace her old MacBook and looking at new ones wtf

MacBooks now have one USB C port. That's it ?!? So any peripherals I have can't be plugged into this and if I have more than one I'm screwed . I just don't understand , do people not plug in a mouse or external hard drive or flash drive (considering these things only come with a 256gb hard drive) seems like a minimum of 4 USB ports would be necessary

Do I just need to break her of the Mac love or is their a way people can actually function with these overpriced computers

Apple is obsessed with thinness to the detriment of many users. If you want something better get a MacBook Pro.

ETA: I've thought about this some more and your wife will probably be perfectly happy with a MacBook Air. And lucky for you it is the cheapest MacBook Apple offers.

Dude. You are aware that there are multiple models and not just the "MacBook", right?

Get her a MacBook Pro or Air if you need all those ports.

I have a MBP and my wife has a MB. We bought her a usb-c hub and it's fine but I agree they should have put one on each side.

ETA: LINK to Hub

My work bought me a MBA. While I love the form function of it and boot speed that makes it basically available at all times like a tablet, I admit that the necessity of lugging around peripheral adapters is annoying, especially because I have to present off it a lot.

Just buy a 13" Macbook pro.

The touchpads have gotten so good people do not connect mouse that much any more. If you need a mouse, look for a bluetooth one.

honestly, now days you don't need more than one usb most of the time. most people don't plug a mouse into their laptop anymore and most don't need more than 1 usb/external harddrive at a time

This, definitely this. Except for the fact that the USB-C port on the MacBook is also for external power. Regardless of battery life, that's just annoying.

You don't know what is best for you. Apple knows what is best for you.

Wait until WWDC -- June 13th. They should be releasing Skylake MBPs this year, probably then.

Apple and its closed ecosystem is such a joke.

How do you convince yourself to pay twice the price for an inferior product to a windows computer?

I have one and it's fantastic. The one USB-C port has really only been a pain once where the battery didn't last long enough to do a backup to my external hard drive. But otherwise it really hasn't been an issue. It's super light and the new keyboard is awesome. I recommend a bluetooth mouse though, although I haven't been using one, the trackpad is pretty sweet.

currently plugged into my work computer:
usb key for software I use, 128 gb flash drive that i work off of, external hard drive that I back up, and a mouse

this will be for home use but she will still want to plug in a flash drive and has some cutting machine that plugs into the computer

guess i didnt realize the air still has normal usb ports so i was wrong there but im also only wanting to spend about $1000

I would haul around ten pounds worth of rocks if it meant work buying me a MacBook Air.

Yes, the plain MacBooks were just updated with Skylake processors. The MacBook Pros have not been updated yet.
