I find the Superfish blunder to be irritating, kind of funny, and disappointing. But Lenovo still wins the bang-for-buck battle more often than not, and I'd hate to write them off over a piece of shitware that sits among the other bloat that users should just quickly and easily uninstall on day one.

Yep, first day got rid of most of the bloat that came with this thing, and I love it thus far.

Its my 2nd laptop I've ever owned.

Owned a HP DV6 that I purchased back in 2009 to get me through college and its almost dead so I went with this after hearing good things about it from my brother who also purchased one.

Handles League of Legends fine under highest settings without getting too warm and thats the majority of my gaming, even though I do own Skyrim and I've heard this thing handles Skyrim pretty well too.

Supposedly they've stopped doing that shite after all the terrible pub, and they released a tool and instructions to remove Superfish, but I am pretty disappointed and a little pissed that they would do that to begin with. They can claim "oh we didn't know it was bad" all they want, but the bottom line is people want vanilla Windows. None of the crapware that any manufacturer installs adds any value for the customer, it's all just to boost the margins for the manufacturer. I can't imagine it amounts to more than $20 or so per machine, so just leave all that shite off, add $20 to the price, and advertise it as a pure experience that's faster and smoother than the other guys.

Funny you mentioned this. Just bought the Asus ZenBook 305 (which I linked) but didn't buy that one, they have another model that is $20 more thay doesn't have all that shite.

I gladly paid it

Same.

I've owned one of all the major brands, Dell has been the worst.

Asus has been the only computer I can throw in a bag, bang around, and I've never had a single issue with. I've put them through some serious torture and 0 issues. The one I'm using now was purchased in 2009.

Same here as well.

Bought this Asus U45JC-A1 back in Oct. 2010 and it's still going strong (knock on wood). I still get about 5 or 6 hours out of the battery when surfing the internet only. It used to go 10 hours easy when new. It's been a great laptop and I recommend Asus to everyone because of it.

Well... I went with a Asus T300. Kinda went totally opposite from my preferred screen size.

The surface pro's had me intrigued about the portability but didn't want to pay the price if I didn't like. The T300 is a compromise at $425 and if I don't like it my daughter will have a new computer that she needs for school anyway.

The key board size is going to take getting used to also. I had to pull the trigger as I'm beginning a new project Monday and needed replacement computer pretty bad.

My big question is the hard driver on the T300's convertible to a SSD? I will likely want to do this when I complete the new project in a month or so. Currently has 500gb.

Link to the one you bought? I didn't know the T300 had a version without an SSD.

Ok, that's the Flip TP300. There's also a T300 Chi which is a Surface Pro 3 competitor.

The TP300 looks like a standard laptop with a touchscreen and more flexible hinge, which means you can technically swap out the 2.5" drive. However, a Google search turns up this issue:

quote:

“I’m trying to replace the hdd with an ssd and wow, I don’t think Asus wants you to do it. There is a warranty void sticker covering one of the screws for the hard drive caddy. Also, the hard drive caddy is wrapped around in protective tape.

I posted the image here: LINK . The yellow sticker near the right edge of the laptop is what I was referring to. I used a blow dryer to slowly peel it off and then stuck it to wax paper. If I need to, I can reapply it at any time. Also that brown shroud covering the hard disk needs to be peeled off as well. Otherwise you can’t install an SSD.”

On that seal, Richard mentions that: “Yes it was on one of the screws. It’s basically impossible to remove the sticker, it had loads of radial cuts in it so as soon as I touched the sticker it pretty much disintegrated. I suspect if you had a hairdryer to soften the glue, a very soft touch and a lot of patience you could maybe get the sticker off in one piece, but it’s very obviously designed to make that almost impossible.”

Bummer... didn't realize that. I knew the pure tablets for asus was an issue. I didn't check for this one as I assumed with a 500 hdd drive I would be able to.
