I swear have both in the network and half the time they don't do shite. Can't be found, etc. drives me fricking inane. Why this rant, because it saves a printer from going out the window.

Seriously just going to buy a printer for the desk. So tired of non stop problems from these fing HP printers. I can see it on the network. My computer can't see printer as being on. Neither of them.

These things only happen when you need something now. I emailed my printer and then it printed but it's too dumb to be able to print the file I need without a PC.

Wireless printers, scratch that off the list of technology i am done with. From now on it's USB only.

F this shite.

I tried that - it can be an AH on the wifi, too. It's settled down, lately, but the first few months, I had to threaten it with a hammer a couple of times.

Printers in general are my worst enemy. I don't even bother having one at home anymore, if I need copies or a print I go to the FedEx store.

I've had Brother and Epson without any issues at all. It's probably your router or pc.

This for a business or personal? This is my business and you are wasting your money with that crap anyway. Much better options.

I have that one. We have to turn it off and back on for the computer to find it again if it hasn't been used in a while. Not really that big of a deal, but kind of a pain.

I've had nothing but issues over the years with HP printers at the house. Would always have to run the HP print/scan doctor shite...

I concur and advocate for Brother in the home....i bought a new MFC Brother that I chose the wrong model and it only has wireless, but it works like a champ....installed easily for multiple windows and mac laptops...scans directly to shared folder on NAS...

I've had a Brother, Lexmark, and now an HP. Have had similar experiences as OP with all 3. HP has been fine though for the past year or so.

I've always just connected via usb cable when I had problems.

I just install through the USB and then share it as a network printer so all the computers on the network can use it. But I have no need to print anything from my phone.

I found out a year that the best thing to do is assign the printer a static IP address.

I haven't had any problems since.

This link is for an HP printer but setting up a static IP is still the same. Scroll down to the Solution Three: Static IP section

I've done the same with a Brother Laser & Brother Inkjet wireless. I rarely have problems with these. (Using Vista on an old laptop & linux desktop)

It took me about six months to get my HP P1102w set up to the point where it would print regularly, but now I'm golden. I don't recall now because it was a few years ago, but my guess is that the static IP address is what made it more reliable. Love the printer now, but man, I was ready to chuck it out the window until then.
