Anyone know if this thing will at least be water resistant? If not, I may switch to galaxy.

and "It just works"

(line of people at Genius Bar is out the door)

believe me, I'm a critic and will buy the best phone for me. I've owned several brands....currently my setup is best with Apple products because of AppleTV and my iMac at home.

As with all Apple products, nothing is concrete until they launch it. Rumors are:

No headphone jack
Dual-lens camera for iPhone 7 Plus
Design similar to iPhone 6s
Redesigned antenna bands
Possible Smart Connector
Upgraded processor
Two screen sizes

I've also heard water and dust resistant.

With everything seeming to move towards Bluetooth for audio, would it make sense to do wireless charging to really get it water resistant? I have old docks I refuse to use with the new phones because I have cases on them and adapters are not long enough. I might actually buy a new speaker for the kitchen if there wasn't a docking option on the phone. I know that is kind of backward thinking but if the phone wouldn't physically connect due to design and not just my case being the limiting factor I would do it.

Why don't you just buy a bluetooth speaker and not worry about thinking backwards? The only real benefit of a docking speaker system would be charging. Having the phone on you to control the audio from another room seems much more beneficial. If you're talking about a kitchen speaker, people that have them seem to love their Amazon Echoes.

Have you sat in there and eavesdropped on people getting help there? You can't blame all that on Apple, lol. Lots and lots of stupid people and people that fricked up their devices on their own.

No plugs. No switches. No pairing.
The Smart Connector transfers both data and power between iPad Pro and the Smart Keyboard — no batteries or charging required. Just attach the Smart Keyboard, then start typing. And when you disconnect, an onscreen keyboard automatically reappears.

It's on the iPad Pros currently. It may be a way to ditch the lightning port, have it completely sealed, and have a magnetic charger..

Well, that isn't the only reason. I bought this dock back when I had a 4S model, and since we've had the 5S and now the 6, I just don't use it that much. I did keep one of the older 4S models for my kids to play around on. It had a small crack near the home button, and that is the only thing we use to charge it with. Like I said, sort of backwards thinking. I may just move it to one of their rooms and get a Bluetooth speaker.

My new GMC Sierra has wireless charging on the console and I was told by the dealer that they were told that it would be supported by the iPhone 7. That's a car dealership so I took it with a big grain of salt, but I would be very surprised to not see wireless charging.

I'm really hoping for sapphire glass.

Rumor is that wireless charging may come in 2017. They're going to have to get away from metal and switch to a glass or poly-carbonate back. And that's not likely this year.

I doubt a big change like that in 2017. Even years are the design change years. Odd years tend to be the same design with a spec bump (S models). If wireless charging comes it will be this year or not until 2018.

I'd take a screen that didn't shatter over a waterproof phone any day
