Ok so I replaced the screen on my iphone 4 and the colors on the screen look inverted. I switched the white and black color option off and even tried hitting the home button 3 times. Still looks like crap. If I tilt it to the right everything looks good. Help please

Is the screen sitting exactly flat? Kinking the cable that passes through the frame is easy to do. It needs to be pulled through completely. I'd take the back off and reconnect all the terminals under the screen shield just to be certain they're all down.

I had my cousin do it because I'm illiterate when it comes to this crap. I'll let him know

He said he's taken it apart 10 times to make sure it wasn't kinked and still not working.

It's real easy to damage it, I pinched mine when I first repaired one. Didn't damage it though. It's really common when repairing the screens. Maybe you just got a bum screen, I just don't know. There's not much troubleshooting you can do without another screen.

Yeah, they are easy to screw up. Even a nick in one of the tracers in the ribbon cables that's hard to see with the naked eye can cause problems with discoloration, distortion, intermittent touch response, etc. That, and excess pressure on the LCD component from warping, piece of broken glass stuck in the phone housing, etc.

Or, like Gaston said, could just be defective screen. I've installed a couple dozen of them from various sources and haven't had a defective one yet, but most of them are cheap aftermarket knockoffs made in China, so it's not a big stretch of the imagination to consider some of them might be broken right out of the box.

Is there a place locally I can go buy a better screen? My dad needs it back for the weekend and I don't have time to order one

Is your old screen still operable, like cracked but still powers on?

See if your cousin can test with the old one. If it's a pinched cable the colors will be inverted on your old screen as well.

And yes, it's easy to screw it up. I replaced my old 4S screen twice. The second time I thought I was the shite until I got it assembled and got a white screen. Had to take it apart and put it back together for three hours to get it to work again.

I was replacing the battery in my iPhone 5 a few months back. I had done it once before so I thought I was a pro. Well, i got it back together and couldn't get the screen to light up, so I figured I hadn't reattached the cables good enough. So I took it back apart and made sure they were in there. Turned phone on and had some weird off colored squares at the top of the screen, so I went to check the connections again and....frick i just ripped the cable the connects the screen to the board.
