I just saw mark Cuban on the glenn beck program last night about this and we are screwed. Both said they have a roku and with internet neutrality that everything streaming is going to buffer all the time. We will be behind all the other countries on internet speed.

Wtf
Net neutrality is supposed to help improve speeds. On our current path we will stay behind other first world countries.
If you want a bunch of mis informed opinions of people who don't understand the technology go to the poli board

They both clearly have no idea what net neutrality is really about or what it affects.

Couldn't be any worse than it already is. We're paying way more and getting slower speeds than in almost any other developed country. Half the resistance to this proposal comes from the fact that Obama supports it.

for streaming it just means ISPs will charge more for faster speeds for those specific protocols.
it wont be any slower, in fact you will most likely end up with faster speeds, but a bigger bill.
i find it hard to believe Cuban doesn't understand this.

Lol. Have you read the regulations yet?

Net Neutrality is more or less what we've had since the beginning of the internet. I wouldn't say it's helped improve speeds, but it's not the reason they are hindered either. They're hindered because ISP's haven't reinvested in their networks enough, even while promising to do just that if they received tax credits/breaks/incentives which they've been getting.
That said, whatever the FCC is voting on I can guarantee is not net neutrality in the strictest of terms. If it were, then the public would be able to see the proposed rules before the vote.
Instead of the 330+ pages of new rules, we get this 4 page fact sheet.

This whole move to public utility status should give groups like Google Fiber access to poles without having to fight cable companies that are throwing temper tantrums over it. This could bring more competition to the table and thus make it better for some.

Other companies will be able to lease existing lines at fair market rates* if I'm not mistaken (like cellular MVNO's).
*Anytime the government determines fair market rates I'm skeptical

The whole reason the isps can do that is because of government regulations.

Shared infrastructure gives all isp's access your area of they want to creating more competition. You wouldn't be stuck with at best 3 providers in your area.

Tragedy of the Commons with the Internet. Great, because government does so well managing other common use infrastructure.
Seriously, do you just parrot Reddit?

I have cheap gigabit internet and cheap reliable power.
City government internet
Municipal power distributor
Federal government power generation
Seems to me that I enjoy my governmental services as opposed to say the Texas deregulation model.
As much as I hate to say it, government has treated me far better than private industry in these services.

No I just happen to do IT for a living in the military and have lived in two European countries with better and cheaper internet.

I find it hilarious that so many think they know more than Cuban about this subject.

But it won't be government providing the service... It'll still be isps

In some cases it will be government providing the service. More Municipalities will get into the game if it is regulated like a utility and they are allowed entry around laws that favor a-hole ISPs. Hell my municipality is currently fighting to get the laws changed in Tennessee so that they can bring gigabit internet to rural areas that are not in their area that cable companies won't serve at all and the cable companies are fighting to stop them from being able to do that....
ISPs are responsible for this current climate and need to do this... They have only themselves to blame by running the monopoly game on us.

Bc cable isp's don't want to lay fiber or upgrade infrastructure.
They would rather you share bandwidth, throttle your speeds, create fast lanes all while paying over what you should be.

Nothing in the "fact sheet" even supposes the government will do this either.
