I live in an extremely rural area. Poor high-speed internet access.

I want to be able to tether my Xbox to my phone to keep up with progress in games and get system updates.

I have an ATT tower on the far side of my property.

What can I do?

I was only tethering to my tablet via Bluetooth for years.

They were none the wiser.

Wi-Fi they can see though.

What kind of phone? I have unlimited with Verizon, and after rooting my Pixel, was able to edit by build.prop to allow me to wifi tether.

LG g5.

Allowing the tethering isn't the issue.

Hiding the tethering is what I want to do.

I use 70gb a month without any tethering. I don't think my Xbox updating with the weather should matter.

But they always comment on the Wi-Fi tethering.

Maybe if you use it connected via USB?

I'm not supposed to tether on my Verizon unlimited data plan, but have for years. I use an app called FoxFi. But Android finally screwed things up by removing the exploit. So on my phone, I can't upgrade to Android 7. I'm hoping they fix the app. Otherwise, I'm gonna jail break it.

You linked an article from 2011 . No longer relevant.

Op search for wifi tether router. That's what I used on Android a while back and it looks like it's been updated recently. Might need to be rooted to hide usage

The hotspot is easy. The problem is them seeing the usage. Less than .001% will come from tethering. But they will still notice if it is via Wi-Fi or usb.

For some reason they can't see Bluetooth tethering.

Tethering is now allowed on unlimited... on vzw & att. That's what the rep told me anyway. Call to verify.

Only allowed if you give up the grandfathered unlimited plan and accept their "unlimited plan". Which is anything but.

He knows tethering is not allowed, that is why he is looking for a way to hide it.

Read mine. Tethering isn't allowed. I know this. I tether my in dash tablet in the car, so I don't have to cast the screen. I do this via Bluetooth. They cannot see it.

I have the grandfathered unlimited plan. Tethering is not allowed.

I use such a huge amount of data on my phone, I don't think it matters if I use 20 mb a month to keep all electronics up to date.

I cannot get high speed internet at the house.
