I have had Sony, Yamaha, and Onkyo. I am upgrading. Which do you guys think is best for they money? I don't want to spend over $500. I would like to have wireless obviously, and the ability for zone 2. TIA

If those are the only 3 options then Yamaha. If you want to look outside of those, look into Denon.

I have a Sony stereo receiver from the mid 90s. I plugged a 35$ Chromecast audio in to that badboy and its like new.

In terms of Home Theater -- the chromecast audio probably won't help.

Ive always had good luck with Onkyo. The zone 2 will be your biggest hurtle when picking out a receiver depending on what you want to do with that zone. Price will jump a bit also for this feature.

Amazon has been doing this the last few years... Always a good deal

Onkyos usually give the most features for the money, but quality can be suspect.

That's a solid unit. Pioneer and Onkyo combined resources for their home AV a year or so ago. Both brands have benefited from it as I've seen reduced issues with both brands.

And that price is below wholesale

I've always had Pioneer receivers and I have been very happy with them.

One big thing for me is that I mod classic video game consoles as a hobby, and one of the mods I do to my consoles is add digital audio output. For example, I have a Super Nintendo, Sony PlayStation (original), and Sega Saturn all modded for SPDIF coax output. The clock rate on these consoles doesn't allow for adhering the SPDIF standard perfectly, and a lot of receivers will have trouble playing them, not being able to lock on the signal perfectly, sometimes dropping out during silence, etc. but my Pioneer receiver has none of those problems.

DONT BUY ANY OF THOSE OLD BRANDS...ALL CHEAP CRAP.

Look into:

LINK

Not Cheap but WORTH every penny. Runs circles around the rest, including "INTEGRA" - Onkyos "upper protected line". all crap.

Which old brands?

Their cheapest A/V receiver is $1400.00 bro.

It had better be nice at that price.

I picked up an Onkyo 747 about a year ago and set up a 7.2 system and have been really happy with it.

You guys are morons.

Anthem is one of the best out there, but the OP is looking for the best value.

Anthem that is not.

Booger said "not cheap, but worth every penny"

I responded "he is correct"

...and you call me a moron? Learn to read.

I did not make a response to the OP, but to Booger...and he IS correct.
I never suggested a piece of gear for the OP either.

I am well aware of audio gear in all price ranges--more so than anyone on this site.

And at $1400 for all Anthem offers, it is certainly a stellar value--you get what you pay for.
It will last 20 years...this will be the OP's 4th receiver in how many years?
