Just set up a TP-Link AC3200 wireless router to upgrade my wireless. It is definitely much faster than what I had before and handles multiple connections better.

However, I can't get my laptop to connect. It is on the network, but says limited and won't actually pull up a site. I've restarted several times both computer and router. Acer laptop that is about 6 years old.

I have 4 or 5 other devices that are working perfectly on it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

TIA!

have you recently used your laptop on another network? You should check it on another network. That will narrow it down some. Most routers also have troubleshooting software you can download. That may help.

It worked on my old router just fine before I setup the new one. I'll see if I can find some trouble shooting software.

Try uninstalling your wireless network on laptop then
restart it.

Confirm you are connecting to the correct network?

Make sure wireless radio is on

Is the name and password for your new router the same as the old one? I've done that and it resulted in some devices not connecting properly.

What was the IP address used for your old router, and what is used for the new one? Your laptop might have its TCP/IP setting set to manual. If that's the case, then switch it to automatic.

If your old router used 192.168.0.1 and your new one uses 192.168.1.1, then your laptop might be trying to use the old network ip structure.

Click Start
In run box, type CMD
Right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator"
In command prompt, enter the following:
quote:

ipconfig /flushdns

* This purges the DNS info from the previous networks
quote:

ipconfig /release

* This will purge the IP information on your laptop
quote:

ipconfig /renew

* This will obtain new IP information from your network

See if that works.

Above should cover it. Although you might have a static ip but I doubt it. Post if the above doesn't fix it.
