Today's thread is the second one I've seen on TD stating that W10 just installed itself. I don't want it at all, and am completely happy with 7. A box popped up telling me to install it the other day, and it read like I didn't have any option. I just closed the window and it went away.

Am I gonna have to deal with this BS during midterms.....when I need shite that is saved in specific spots on my computer? I don't feel like chasing files, folders, and programs down in the windows old folder because I don't fricking feel like it. I for sure don't feel like learning a new GD operating system while I am trying to study for midterms.

Well you should go ahead and get used to it since it's infinitely better than 7

It'll still be there when I run Windows update? I just don't want it to automatically update to 10

kb3035583 is the windows 10 upgrade assistant. removing it following the above instructions will disable the w10 upgrade and keep it (the assistant aka nagware) from being reinstalled.

just to be safe, when you run windows update you can also look for an option that specifically says "install windows 10" and uncheck it as well.

I changed my settings from auto update to never check for updates. Once a week I check for windows updates. When kb3035583 is listed, I removed the check mark and it does not download.

Then don't install it. It isn't automatically installing at all, it's basically just an advertising prompt and nothing more.

That said, Windows 10 is Microsoft's response to Google and Apple's "one account on any device" and is IMHO quite good. If you want an OS that only works on one physical machine then Windows 7 is fine. If you want a Windows device that does all the neat stuff across machines that Google and Apple do, then Windows 10 is a very solid upvote IMHO.

no, they had to do something.....

a while back, I had a thread on 10
and how to defeat a bunch of big brother on there.
I don't like surprises either and understand your reluctance. the guy at costco told me lots of people brought 8 back, cuz it was not use friendly...I hated it. 10 is better

I bought a small acer with 10 on it....it works ok....only used it for a cpl weeks then let it set, I have yet to disable a bunch of crap and relaunch it.

I'm in no hurry

I have 8 on my 2-in-1, but I put Classic Shell on it, so I don't have to mess with the whole 8 interface

Can you tell me how to stop 10 from setting Edge as my default browser twice a week?

It's such BS.

I got up from my desk for a second and Windows 10 was suddenly installing itself. Finally, after hours of waiting, it launched. Once I restarted, it got into a reboot loop. I had to boot in safe mood and uninstall mcafee. What a bunch of shite; however, now that it's working well, I find it much better than Windows 8.

I've never had this problem.

Click the windows button. Then settings. Then system. Then default app.

Then scroll to web browser. Click whatever is currently there. A box pops up asking you to pick from the list.

I did that once back when I set the computer up and never again.

If it keeps happening, you might have a browser hijacker on your system because I browse all day and night and have never had it switch back.

What do you call someone who keeps trying to get you interested and won't quit even after you say no?

Windows 10.

There's a small program called GWX control panel that will take care of all the windows 10 nagging. If you are the sort that has no desire to upgrade yet. Can even stop it if it's scheduled already.

Idk, when I left for work yesterday morning my computer hadn't updated yet and had no prompts. When I got home, Windows 10 had installed and the startup wizard was waiting on me.

I do this regularly, but every time I get any minor Windows update, it changes the default back to Edge. When I log in after an update, there is a windows popup telling me how to reset the defaults.

I'm running security software, how would I find out if there is a browser hijacker?
