Google Maps has progressively gotten worse over the years. It went from a map that displayed addresses and street view to this horse shite. I can barely see wtf I am looking at. I go to maps because I want to see a mother fricking map.

As always, dev teams take two steps forward and seven steps back. Every single dev team in the universe is so good at fricking up something that works. I mean, if anything works well, they break it

I agree. I don't hate it, but I've moved over to using Apple's Maps full time. I like that it displays real time traffic jams/accidents/road closures without being prompted.

I do t understand what you're complaining about. Just click the map to full screen and zoom on it.

Also waze is the best thing out there.

You are right. Concepts like this start out clean and functional.

Then developers have to justify their existence by adding features (Look what I did!), which eventually ruins the product through bloat.

Google maps doesn't do this on iphones?

Edit: and to op - just click the x and it will close that out.

Does Waze actively change your route during trip to avoid traffic?

You see that x button next to the place you're looking for?

You can make it a full screen map in seconds.

that displayed addresses and street view

I mean it's giving you the business info with the address, your search results and then a map. And you can choose more map

If it only brings back a single result, you don't get the same look either.

I really don't see the issue here.

Idk, it's pretty awesome being able to navigate to gas stations based on prices, and knowing when a place is about to close all in 1 location.

It's pretty awesome being able to see traffic and even being able to see what normal traffic conditions are at any time the day. Planning to leave at 5pm on a Friday? You can look at what your route usually takes at that time

Try searching for the Superdome and you get 1 result back and basically a full screen map.

Click the arrow, and it's completely full screen

I find Waze to be cluttered and ugly. I don't need to see little cartoons of other people using the app near me.

The Waze layout is horrendous... but are there any other apps that change routes actively based on traffic?

I love how google now knows "he's going to place x on this day and I know it takes 40 minutes from this location" - and then sends me a notification 50 minutes before and says "You need to leave now to make sure you are there on time"

and yes, that might freak some people out, but I personally like it

its been doing it for so long and so well that city planners are mad

WAZE ROADBLOCKS GOING UP

quote:

USA Today interviewed Noe Veloso, Fremont’s principal transportation engineer, who said, “We’re just trying to find a balance, to eliminate some of the time savings that’s sending people into our streets.”

There’s just one problem: if you make one city side street less attractive, the apps will just route people to another one. The director of the Washington State Transportation Center says that if traffic is like water, “The water often finds a new route around the dam.”

And of course, it’s not just happening in Fremont, California. “Fremont’s situation is playing out in towns and cities across the U.S.,” reports USA Today, “with municipal planners just starting to grasp the scope of the challenge.”
