Google getting into the VNO biz? Details on "Project Fi" Leaked...

The code suggests a very different approach to mobile data than you're probably used to, even compared to a pay-for-what-you-use offering like Ting. You'd pay only for the gigabytes you expect to use, and you'd get credit back if you don't use as much as planned. There are no mentions of overage fees (you'd just pay the usual per-gigabyte rate), and Google would be unusual among virtual network operators in its willingness to support multiple lines and data-only devices like tablets.

I am so ready for this. We have seen a few battles, mostly T-Mobile taking shots, but we are long overdue for all-out war in wireless. We need to commodify data.
Think about where we are: the big players have carefully manipulated their plans and services to the point where it seems normal to continually pay for stuff we don't use. Hell, we see it as a bonus when someone offers rollover data (*with limitations)! You mean I get to use (most of) what I paid for? Nice! What if you had to buy gas before each commute, and whatever was left in the tank got taken back upon arrival? Or if you cut the estimation too close and run out of gas on the way, they will happily come out and refill you for double the cost? It's bizarre when you think about it.

Not sure but I'm guessing they could easily buy massive amounts on the cheap and then simply operate as they see fit as many MVNO's do.

Probably won't buy. But, can't wait to see if/how it disrupts the market.
