Linux is perfectly adaptable to the user. It is a reflection of the person using it.

And it's not just different applications that are variables, but different versions of different applications. We have a variety of Windows PCs at different states of update and once saw an update that caused web browsing problems with just the right version mix of XP/Norton/IE, you had to have the right version of all 3 to experience the problem. They can only test for so much before they have to rely on user feedback and bug reporting.
