Most new iOS releases seem to be a headache on my phone, and now this Sierra release has rendered my Mac almost unusable it is now so slow.

Sorry to vent, downvote if you must. What a drag though.

You could say the same for Windows. The Anniversary update made my desktop completely unusable.

Of course they do but they can't possibly test for every scenario.

Can't believe I just defended Apple. I HATE Apple.

I need to go lie down.

Atleast with Windows, it could be going out to any combination of hardware. Apple knows exactly where theirs is going.

What version of iPhone and Mac are you using?

What specifically is causing the "headache" on the phone?

By design. They want you to buy a new phone.

This is true, but if Apple went the Android route and quit sending software updates to phones that are two years old, people would be bitching about that too.

This. The biggest threat to a computer is usually the user.

I have a couple of family members who have three different antivirus programs on their computers "just to be safe" and can't understand why they have problems.

Just a 6. I have intenionally not downloaded the latest iOS. Previous older iPhones I used were just about bricked by software updates.

A Mac Mini from years ago. However it was running smooth until I downloaded this latest software with messaging and other stuff.

Yes, working and living in a multi-platform world is a bit overwhelming with the constant barrage of updates and problems.

My desire is to have a lite version of whatever OS I'm using. If that's impractical then give me the ability to turn off all the features I don't want or need.

My wife had a perfectly functioning iPad mini.

We did an update on it and it bricked. I brought it to the Apple Store and asked WTF.

Sorry sir...the update must have exposed an unknown hardware issue, you're out of warranty and there's nothing we can do. You can buy a refurbed unit for $199.....again WTF!!

I wanted to burn the place down.

Did you run that up the chain? I know Apple CS isn't perfect, but I'd be surprised if that was the best you could get.

As to OP, Sierra (and Office) has rendered my 2013 iMac a piece of shite

Sierra cause my iMac to become almost unusable also. After talking to apple for a while, we figured out that signing out of iCloud and then back in and not selecting iCloud Drive (I don't use it anyway) it completely fixed everything. Works like it should now. Might want to give that a try.

I think you're looking for Linux.

Love Linux but it can be a PITA trying to chase down a problem. Example, working around the lack of Flash support. The answer is usually on a support forum somewhere, but it's usually hard to find among the jargon and insider bullshite. The best thing about it is I can surf porn without worrying about malware. I was gifted a secondhand Mac and I've been trying it out, but I will probably go back to Linux eventually.
