I was put into a bind and my org is looking for an e commerce admin back end with a basic front end and after two quotes the average is $10K plus. But we need more customized programming on the back end and are asking our site to do more.

Really eye opening from a cost perspective...

A relative of mine has a research non-profit that could use a nice website update. Does anyone know of a typical price range for something like this? It does not need very much as far as functionality, just needs to match the purpose of the organization as far as looking professional and informative. Would likely need to include a list of testimonials, some embedded videos from various talks and presentations, connectivity to Facebook, twitter, etc...

This person has put their heart and soul into important medical research, they just lack the funds and technical know how to update the website on their own. So I wanted to do this as a gift...

In short I guess I'm looking for a vague ballpark price quote (do people even make websites for under $1000?) and potential names around baton rouge of people who are good at making websites for cheap and wouldn't mind the project... thanks

sounds like something that could be done pretty easily on a site like wix that gives you templates. wix is free to try so you could take a hack at it. you might also be able to find someone on fiverr or freelancer to do it for cheap.

I agree. I used Wix to build a non-profit website, a healthcare landing page, and a job application website. Wix does have some shortcomings and there are some better website builders, but it is fast, easy, and fairly inexpensive.

I strongly, STRONGLY advise against a freelancer using Fiverr or something like that. The reason is you have to think about long term. The goal for a site is not only getting it up off the ground. It's maintaining as well.

A freelancer who will design it won't be around to maintain it. The person you find to maintain it won't be familiar with how the guy who built it was thinking. I have dealt with this in a professional environment and in dealing with my non profits e commerce site we are still working on after 2 years.

You want an end to end solution. It will prove a time drain and much costlier to piecemeal the construction and maintenance to save money up front.

I'm talking about getting a freelancer or fiver to build it on wix. Wix is going to be around a long time as will people supporting it.

Not in Baton Rouge, but I've got a handful of people in my network that could do this, and definitely under $1k, most likely under $500.

It'll be slick and easy to manage.

I would say that you could find a freelancer to get you set up for ~$1000 but it would be a Wordpress site. You'd be looking at around $50 for a template, $30/hr for implementation which would take around 30-35 hours.

I only do backend and work (everything but design/ui), or else I'd offer.
