I've narrowed my choices down to two, and from what I can gather the key difference is the GE has a food grinder whereas the Kitchenaid has a food filter. It seems that most companies are moving towards the food filter option for two reasons 1) cut down on noise and 2) more eco friendly. I don't care about number 2.

Option 1 - GE Adora

Option 2 - KitchenAid KDTE254ES

Best Buy is offering free installation on Kitchenaid appliances, so after they price match Sears' sale price, the two come within $20 of each other after taxes. Not sure which way to go.

GE stuff is absolute crap. My last house was tricked out with that GE monogram shite and dam near had to replace every appliance in the kitchen after the first 5 years or so.

Would not buy again.

Wow, that's disappointing. I figured these two companies would be two or the more reliable ones.

this is true. Bought a pretty expensive GE dishwasher and it was crap. returned it and got a Kenmore. Has been great. Had previously owned a Kenmore dishwasher for over a decade.

Neither of those.

You need to be looking at Samsung or Bosch.

I know the Bosch are highly rated, but I don't like the fact that they don't have heated drying.

Kitchen Aid easily.

But I have a Fisher Paykel double drawer that is extremely quiet and has two separate motors.

Absolutely the best dishwasher we have ever owned.

Going to go with the Kitchenaid. Little hesitant about no food grinder, but at least that's one less mechanical part that can break.

Do not buy a GE dishwasher. Get the Whirlpool ( I mean Kitchenaind, but it's a fancy Whirlpool) it is better made.

The food filter, takes away one of the most common fail points on a dishwasher. Food getting in impeller and seizing it. Though while the chopping blade is noisier, the filter machines do tend to retain more smell.
I am trying to recall the Whirlpool made self cleaning model. I know there is one.

KA is the best of the Whirlpool brands, you will likely have a stainless tub and that cuts down on noise as well.

If your Kenmore model number starts with 266,267,363 or 464 it's a GE.

Kenmore doesn't make anything.

Everything they sell is made for them by another company.

Who makes my Kenmore?

Bosch work well, but plastic items don't seem to come dry. It's a common complaint. Ceramic, and glass cleans well. You have to use a drying aid too.

Cal rod heaters are going to be phased out, they use too much power. Energy Star is all engineers are worried about now.

Bought a stainless counter depth fridge from Samsung when we closed in May of 2013. Has given us no troubles and we are super pleased. Cleans up simply and looks amazing. Would recommend.

Got a LG in this house (built 2016). Had Bosch in last house (built 2012) This LG destroys Bosch and Bosch was great.

If your home has an open floor plan then you want to go with the quietest dishwasher possible.

I just went and checked the model number -- we have this model. Have had it about a year now. It is awesome.

My only complaint is that the indicator light for it washing should be a bit bigger. There have been quite a few times where one of us will open it to get something out of the washer only to find out that it is actually washing. It is that quiet. If you have an open kitchen, it will make a huge difference in when you run the washer -- now you can run it anytime without having to worry about noise.
