I replaced every bulb in my newly built (2013) home with Cree LED bulbs. I am seeing regular failures and have returned/replaced over 15 of them in 6 months. Is it a normal manufacturing defect or a potential electrical problem?

I hope they're giving you the newer models as replacements

Eta consider the 10y guarantee a license to keep upgrading your bulbs

How many hours a day do you put on them? I think those last xx years are usually based on 3 hour days

There is no rhyme or reason to the ones that fail.Recess bulbs in the living room or kitchen vs. day light bulbs outside vs. bathroom fixtures. It has me concerned for the electrical in the house.

There was an LED light thread on here or Reddit where I read that Cree was not recommended because of failure rates.

Wish I knew that before outfitting all of my lamps and bathroom fixtures with them.

Just swapped out 5 failed bulbs at Home Depot. It is nice to be able to swap, but it is still frustrating at the failure rate.

I am using the utilitech brand from Lowes and so far have no failures. They seem pretty good for the price. I was wondering about he Cree bulbs a while back. Glad I didn't go that route now.

especially since they were $10 2 years ago.

Did you get the new ones? How are they?

I'm confused. I thought CAD approved these bulbs.

I love them but now I'm seeing posts crop up everywhere of people having failures.

Part of what I loved about them was the 10y guarantee. The other part was how natural the lighting looked compared to the shitty 99 cent LED bulbs walmart sells.

I don't have any problems but enough people are saying they do that I'm not going to ignore that.

The upside is they have a completely new bulb out now that is supposed to be even better so if your bulb fails you can swap it for a better one.

How do you go about doing something like this? Do you have to have paperwork?

you shouldn't. they have a 10 year guarantee and nobody expect you to keep the bulb wrapper.

cree bulbs have only been out 1-2 years and in my experience, HD will take back anything.

Like the poster above stated. Walk in with the failed bulbs and find the replacements. Go to the return desk and explain you are swapping them out. No further questions asked no receipt needed.

Thanks. None of mine are a year old yet. So no issues to speak of. Just curious if the situation arises.
