Well then, that's pretty strong evidence in favor of the hard drive shitting the bed. If you can completely narrow it down to 100% stability with hard drive unplugged, and consistent shittiness when the hard drive is connected, you pretty much have your answer. unless the SATA controller on the motherboard was causing the problem. That would be unlikely.

Unlikely, but it would definitely be worth trying a different port and cable. I've had one of each go bad.

What's just confusing me is that it will load windows and all.. that's why I thought it Was something else.. but stability happens when its unplugged.. gonna order another one and then send mine off for rma

Maybe I'm confused on the specific symptoms. Lack of sleep.
It was freezing during post, right? Before Windows, at the ASUS splash screen?
Does it sometimes boot to Windows but sometimes not? And when it crashes in Windows, what does the crash entail? More specific symptoms.

Okay, it varies
Yesterday (Before I took out everything, unhooked everything from MB and then put it back in) it would get to ASUS Splash screen and then hold there. I couldn't press F2 or Del, nothing would happen.
I then took the USB devices out, it would load to my bios screen, i would plug back in the USB KB and mouse, it would get to windows load screen, I would log into windows and it would crash.
What happens during a crash is, my computer continues to run, however, my monitors go black and say they are going to sleep - sometimes the screen would freeze up before going to sleep. This happens in all modes (chkdisk, safe, normal).
I even tried loading Windows 7 into my harddrive. It would crash and turn my monitor off as stated before.
I've unplugged and kept my HD unplugged for over 2 hours with stable usage. I've already RMA'd for a new HD and also bought a new one (so 4 TB's of storage for 50$.. too sweet of a deal to pass on tonight.

thanks i'll see what his offer is... if it's a good price I might pick it up.. not sure I need that much space, but the performance is worth it

Okay I got my new HD in.. computer still crashes.
I don't understand why I can play around in the Mb BIOS all day without it going down but as soon as I try and launch something it crashes

Did you try running Memtest86+ for at least 8 hours?

The only problem is that I can't find my freaking box on an ASUS board.. meaning no serial number to be found

Do you know of any software solution that doesn't require windows where I can locate my boards S/N?
I got a new hard drive and I can't boot into work windows with a failed motherboard but I can play around in BIOS without it crashing

With a windows recovery disk to access command prompt, if it lets you, you can try "wmic baseboard get serialnumber"
Doesn't always work. For my MSI motherboard, using that command just returns "SerialNumber To be filled by O.E.M." I have never seen a retail motherboard without a serial number sticker on it unless it was removed by the owner. I've installed multiple m5A99x Evos in various customer computers.
If RMA isn't going to be possible, you might as well buy another AM3+ board from Amazon, and return it if that turns out not to be the problem.
