Thinking about a 4k TV since Comcast finally raised my data cap to 1TB this month and just realized I can't use my Chromecasts to stream 4k Netflix.

What devices are y'all using to push 4k content to your TVs?

I'm debating going Amazon TV based on future 4k possibility. However, my data cap is at 600gb with ATT so I think 4k streaming is out of the question for a year plus until that gets resolved.

It's going to be how the cable companies fight streaming. Until they eventually have OTA Digital that streams 4k, which is supposed to be done by 2018.

The TV itself works perfectly for me

I think Roku has a 4k streaming player.

I'll wait until there's a chromecast that can do it, probably next year.

To clarify, I use the built in Plex app for downloaded 4k, Youtube app for random 4k, and Netflix for actual 4k worth watching (chefs table is ridiculous)..Amazon offers some content, but nothing that I cannot find on these other apps...IF you have to have something plugged in, the newest Roku box does 4k..I've never been a fan of the Chromecast because of the "play to" function

Jesus TigerWise, what's your setup from that picture? That looks intense but it also kinda makes me technologically horny.

I think smart tv apps are crap for the most part so would prefer a Roku or something.

Ok...

My LG essentially runs a version of Android and that is where the apps come from...I use a Roku on a secondary tv, and prefer the "smart features" of the built in one

I'm using the Nvidia Shield TV for this. 4K ready android TV device, which means it has Google cast built in just like your Chromecast.

Why not? Casting runs off a native app but from your phone. The phone just launches the app

Also use my TV like others, the days of TV apps sucking are kinda over.

My Samsung has a quad core processor and built in AC WiFi, the apps run as good as my Fire Stick/PS4/Chromecast2.

Never use anything else for the apps anymore, except Vudu. Vudu app is currently down for Samsung as they are making a new app with HDR1000 support.

If you're going to get a 4K TV right now, don't skimp out. They are at a crucial point right now that you can future proof your TV for years and years, while the cheaper models are already behind in tech. Vizio P Series, Samsung 8000+ series, Sony 2016 series. Really just the Vizio and Samsung's are worth a damn still, LG is shite at 4K both last year and this year. Absolutely MAKE SURE it has HDR10 support or it's useless and outdated already. The Vizio P series supports both HDR10 and Dolby Vision which is a nice bonus since we don't know which format is going to win the format war (HDR will for sure imo). I highly recommend the Samsung KS8000.

Well, you don't HAVE to. It's a set top box that also has that option. If you want to use a remote and access media through dedicated apps on the device, you can also do that.

Google Cast is super convenient though. I use it all the time
