I haven't bought a tv in years so I'm pretty much out the loop... what's the best deal going right now?

This one is is $899... seems to be a good deal compared to $1400 at Best Buy. Any of you own this one or one similar?

Samsung is good but I'm not crazy on the curved shape ones. Maybe someone else can say something

Get it in the flat screen, and not curved, and that would be a good deal.

Curved screens are a gimmick that will give you bad viewing angles.

I thought It was supposed to do the opposite?

The general consensus is that cruved monitors are good (because you sit right in front and very close to them) and curved TVs are bad.

The curves used on TV usually require you to sit an obnoxiously long way away from them to get an undistorted image, and if you have company that has to sit slightly off to the side then they're going to get a really fricked up view.

A lot of misinformation there, curved TV's are the exact same from an angle as a flat panel. That is more from the limitations of a VA LCD panel, not the curvature of it.

Also, curved TV's aren't "bad", they are literally the same.

No... no they are not.

Basic geometry.

Flat

Curved

I guess a spectrophotometer comparing the curved to flat Samsung televisions is wrong.

Basic geometry.

Color error? That's what you're going with?

I bought that exact tv but was not planning on a curved one, stood at the end of an isle of TV's and one stood out from the rest for side viewing angle and it was the curve.

I have a very large room that it is in and it works perfectly, as to another posters claim about needing to be father away from it I have not found that to be true unless you have it in a very small room and that size would be overkill.

I believe the intent of the curve is to be immersed in the picture.

I don't see how you will be immersed in a 65" screen unless you plan on sitting 4 feet away.

hey its your TV, so at the end of the day get what you want.

im just saying Im not 100% sold on the curved trend right now. I just would hate to spend a ton and make it the staple of my living room and then in 2 years they are ancient and everyone is asking why the hell i have an odd shaped TV hanging in my living room?

I just don't see that big of a difference, but if you like it and its a good deal, then go for it.

The curve is not really a factor for me.. I just noticed it was priced quite a bit lower than other TV's in that class. Do y'all have recommendations on a flat panel in that price range?

FTR, it will be mounted on top of mantel of that makes a difference in what you recommend.

Samsung and the Sony's seem to be the only ones I've seen without the annoying "soap opera effect". I would stick to those two if buying a uhd tv
