$1799 for one of the remaining Mid 2015 editions of the 15 inch MacBook Pro.
- 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 (Crystalwell)
- 16GB of Onboard 1600 MHz DDR3L RAM
- 256GB PCIe-Based Flash Storage
- Integrated Intel Iris Pro Graphics

The base trim for the new release 15 inch models retails for $450 more with similar stats using upgraded components.

I've been milking my late 2008 model 13 inch MacBook with a RAM and SSD upgrade, but battery issues aside the processor just won't keep up anymore when photo editing. Another 13 in could be an option, but it may not be that much cheaper to get the memory and storage I want.

I'd like to stay with a Mac as I prefer to natively use Linux for bioinformatics work, and am also fond of Pixelmator and the Photos App.

This price listed is from the education store. I've considered getting a refurb as many posters on here have had good luck with them. However, I'm wary to not buy new as I plan to also keep this one as long as possible.

I've had great success with best buy open box items. I swear some people must buy a laptop, play with it for a day and return it.
