I've posted here before and got some great advice. Here is a mini update and I need some help with choosing the right components.

I graduated from an energy take 5.1 system to the following
Yamaha 375
Energy lcr
Energy rc10 (2 front 2 rear)
TV is Panasonic 65vt30
I still use the sub from the energy take 5.1.

Problem is that although I love the Yamaha reciever is doesn't have enough hdmi and i don't like using hdmi switches. So I'm looking at the higher models. Is there another reciever other than Yamaha i should look at. I'm not interested in 7.2. I guess at some point I might get a 4k TV when they come out with more content.

Second, my sub is not good enough for the size of the room. Any recommendations?

I don't mind spending money but not if it provides a minimal gain.

Tia.

How many HDMI inputs does your current one have?

Check out HSU and SVS subs for something that won't break the bank.

Yamaha 375 had 4 inputs. I need at least 6.

Any particular model of sub?

Another vote for SVS. They make a sub in the $600-$700 range that is badass.

Check out their websites...what's your budget? My cousin has two wild arse kids so he bought a downward firing sub. Lots of things to think about.

New Egg is selling the Onkyo 525 for $199. Like the 375, it's a 2013 model and also a 5.2/.1 system. It also has 6 hdmi inputs that as you required. It does not have blue tooth nor wireless but can be added if you the needed accessories.

Don't really have a budget for either. Just want to hit the sweet spot for value vs performance. Ie the Lexus or Acura of the sub/reciever world.

I've been told to avoid onkyo. Their reliability is not what it used to be apparently.

I would tend to agree. There always seems to be a recall on them.

You are both correct on Onkyo's reliability for the moment. Their inability to correct the hdmi board woes are most troubling. Perhaps they have that problem fixed for their current models.

That being said if you are on tight budget, the Onkyo can hold you over while you save money for a better model. The next cheapest model that has 6 hdmi inputs is the Yamaha 477 for $350.

Look into the Denon lines, they have a 900w that is about 500 bucks but has 8 HDMI inputs that will allow you to expand a little more if you require it down the road. When given the choice, buy more inputs than needed because you can never add more to it.

Denon 900w at Amazon.

as for the subwoofer, I would look at someone like Aperion Audio that is a direct to customer model that will save a little money. They are well thought of around the home theater reviews but I can't personally testify about them. They used to carry a money back guarantee for about a month or two in case you don't like their stuff.

Another brand to look for would be Velodyne. They used to be in the 3 to 500 range, solid sub but not high end.

Outlaw Audio also has a sub that is highly rated in the 600 range.

I would think that SVS and Hsu are the Acura/Lexus of the subs. I have an SVS and really like it.

Realizing your budget and means is an important part of life, and it's nice that you're not looking to run up the credit card.

Another school of thought would be to save up for a quality piece of equipment that you won't be looking to upgrade next year.

I tend to look a little upward of what I can afford (or want to afford), and then figure out a way to get it. Maybe check out audiogon.com.

Good luck!

I have an onkyo 636 and a HSU VTF-15. HSU

It's turned all the way down and it still shakes the room.

Hard to go wrong with a Yamaha receiver. I have the RX-V675 and have no complaints.

For my subwoofer I went with the BIC American F12 and love it. Especially for the price.

Thanks everyone for your help. I think I've narrowed the sub down to hsu or the svs pb2000.

The reciever I might stick with yanaha or see if I can pick up a pioneer elite open box at best buy.

Great speakers. I think you were the one trying to find the RC10 and scored one at Frys, right?

What's the budget for a sub? What's the size of the room?

even though you don't want 7.2, I suggest the 67x (673/675/677) line of yamaha receivers. Best bang for buck in midrange.

You get video upconversion from all sources, more power, true dual zone audio, the ability to do 7.1 if you ever change your mind.

If you don't mind refurbished, you can grab this Denon AVR-X2000 for $319.

Finally read the rest of the thread after my first reply. Can't disagree with the HSU VTF-15 recommendation or the SVS. Also consider this Outlaw Ultra X-12

Yeah. I was able to pick up 2 sets of rc-10s in the end.

I like the svs sub becsuse they have a good return policy if I don't like it.

The demon reciever looks sweet but the Yamaha is more familiar. So maybe the 677 and the svs pb2000 are my picks. Now to pick them up cheap is another task...
