The unlimited plan also includes unlimited talk and text and costs $100 a month for the first phone added, with additional phones costing $40 each. If you have three phones on the plan, adding a fourth phone costs you nothing.

Of course, like with most carrier plans, this plan raises questions about just what a carrier means when it says you have “unlimited” data. AT&T will throttle your speeds during hours of network congestion if you’ve exceeded 22GB per month.
Not bad.

If they don't throttle me until 22 GB, I'm fine with that

They throttle at 5GB and Unlimited Data users get throttled first. It's in your contract.

Not in the article I read about the current offering

They throttle only once you exceed 22 GB and only during high network traffic

Plus they only throttle you when you are in a congested area

Total BS.

They throttle at 5GB and throttle randomly during the day. Basically 8am - 10pm is high network traffic in their eyes.

No. They changed it to 22gb a while back. I've hit 40gb the last two months and haven't been throttled one bit.

Don't believe you haven't been throttled. I call in every month to complain since probably this time last year. Do you check ur speeds and what are you using it for?

Also you location, Thibodaux to Baton Rouge is my commute and its throttled in those areas.

This is interesting. Right now, on my grandfathered plan, I have 2 lines with 700 minutes, 200 texts each, and unlimited data. It's $140 per month plus fees. Next month, the $5 increase on grandfathered lines means it'll be $150 + fees. So, since I have U-verse it would be a no-brainer to switch to this new plan.

But, I don't really use that much data. The only reason I've held on to the old plan is because when you factored in the subsidized phones every two years, it was cheaper than doing mobile share. But now the subsidies are going away, so I was planning to just switch to Straight Talk anyway. It's a $50/month difference that's hard to justify when I probably only exceed 5GB of data once every 2 years.

Still, I am glad to see unlimited plans (even with a catch) being offered again. Data caps hinder progress.

What happens when I want to cancel directv after the contract is up? Will I get kicked off unlimited?

I already have one phone with unlimited, but another with 3Gb, can I convert it to unlimited?

I don't have DirecTV, but I have a Uverse account through work, wonder if that will work?

You'd be moved to a 10 GB plan.

At&t's new unlimited plan is really a pretty good deal. The cost is only $5 more than T-Mobile and $15 more than sprint for 1 line. For 2+ lines, it's actually equal or cheaper than both.

No tethering would be a deal breaker for me. They could at least give a limited tethering bucket for unlimited plans like T-Mobile. I love what TMO is doing right now. I didn't even take advantage of their unlimited plan when I switched to them because I got 20 GB on my line and 10 GB each on 3 other lines that's all tetherable. Throw in music freedom and Binge On that's also zero rated while tethering and that's basically unlimited to the point it could be used as a home ISP.

FWIW I have not been throttled since AT&T raised the threshold. And I have been over that threshold a few times.

You sure that it's actually being throttled in those areas and it's not that the coverage along that route just sucks dick?
