They are on sale on amazon.

Mainly my issues are the following...

1. iPad is so heavy (its a 2)
2. Battery life, i envision going camping and such
3. Whats holding me back is all my books are torrented. Does anyone have experience torrenting an epub or the like and the emailing it to your device's amazon email address? easy?

Only you can know if you read enough to justify paying $90 for an improved reading experience (and another piece of tech to bring with you places). As for epub on Kindle, here's some instructions on converting them LINK

If you read a lot I would definitely get a Kindle. It's a much better reading experience than reading on an iPad. Using calibre from the link above makes changing the format and adding it to the Kindle very easy. Calibre will send the book to your Kindle so there's no need to use an email address.

Sounds like you would be very happy with a Nook + Calibre.

You can load a Kindle with books using this program as well.

I love the iPad/Kindle combo. I really should read more often, but it is very enjoyable on a Kindle.

I still have one of the first Kindles (Kindle 2) that came out in 2009. Still works great. I love the whisper ink and how much easier it is on my eyes than reading on a computer/tablet screen. Also love the battery life. While I read a lot on my Kindle app on my phone...I use my old Kindle when traveling or when I go camping(so I'm not draining battery life on my phone to read). Battery life on a regular Kindle is sooo much better.

Wouldn't the OP have to convert all his epubs to mobi? The Nook and iPad work directly with epub, which is simpler and more convenient. I'd recommend a Kindle only if the plan was to buy Amazon content.

I'm not an avid book reader, but I have had an Ipad Air 2 for years and love it. Bought my kids a kindle fire last year and I hated it just from setting it up. I didn't find it nearly as simple as an Ipad. If you want smaller, just get the Ipad mini. I can't speak for reading experience on either machine.

I believe we've all been talking about e-readers, not tablets, which is what the Kindle Fire is.

I have an iPad 3 and thought about getting a Kindle, but once I got my iPhone 6+ i quit thinking about it. Not saying that the 6+ is a superior reading device by any means, I just couldn't justify another gadget to carry around when I had a phablet.

FYI, Amazon is supposed to release a new flagship Kindle next week. LINK

I hated the kindle. Just not a fan of the processor, seems slow and buggy.. but perhaps that has changed with the more recent ones.. Just not a fan of android.

I would never pay the price that it will inevitably be.

I had a really old nook that was slow slow slow.

Just got a nvidia tablet and used calibre to move everything over.

Love the increased speed but the battery life sucks compared to an actual reader as opposed to a tablet.

Still trying to decide the best reader app to use. Nook and Kindle suck. They can't sort by calibre tags which makes a huge difference.

At the moment using Moon.

LOL at the 290 dollar shite Amazon just rolled out.

I want it, actually, but that price is laughable.

Yeah it looks cool. they have lost their damn mind on this though. Really a shame because Amazon has always been consumer friendly in terms of price point. I will be sticking with my 3 year old kindle.

I've tried a few different Nooks and Kindles.

I just read books the traditional way now.

Every now and then if I want to read a classic you can get for free I'll download it to the Kindle.
