Apple Music vs Spotify

We got a bunch of gift cards for Christmas last year so we basically got Spotify this year for free. We've been using the hell out of it and we like it but don't love it. I'm considering a move to AM after our "free" period is up so I wanted to see what other people's experience has been with it and how it compared to Spotify. From what I've read on the Internets, they offer essentially the same things and basically the same price.
One thing that we found annoying was that we have several devices that we use Spotify on and only one can be playing at a time unless you go offline. We are Apple (no fanboi) across the board except our laptops.

Apple music pales in comparison to Spotify

I made the switch from Spotify to Apple Music, and I've never thought about going back. I don't think one is way better than the other. If you use family sharing though, the family plan works well with up to 6 people on your apple account.

Spotify is supposedly going to make the family option the base option to match Apple. I prefer Spotify's app and UI. Also I think the Ogg Vorbis format provides better music quality than AAC which Apple uses. Spotify also rarely cuts out.

In my experience, if you like composing and curating playlists, spotify is better by a mile. If you prefer to listen to music by individual songs, apple music is far better (this includes for voice controls which I believe may only be on the iOS version, but is a killer feature for me). Sound quality is a push. I prefer Apple Music because of how I listen to music. Regardless, both are good options and with a 3 month free trial, there is no penalty to giving it a shot.

lots of good playlists to be had by going through your Facebook friend's playlists and subscribing to r/Spotify.
Don't think you can do that with apple music. I had both and switched back to Spotify.

Google music > spotify > apple music

You sound like you are on the fence because neither is compelling enough to make you choose. In that case go with price (Apple's the better deal if you can take advantage of the 6 member family plan) or which ever ecosystem you're most invested in (playlists/your own curation). If that doesn't break the tie then you need to look at things like Siri (controls Apple Music better) and any relevant 3rd party hardware support (my PS3 has a Spotify app I can play through my home theater speakers, but no Apple Music app).
