Everyone and their brother in law says build one, but who's going to support it? If you're not familiar with computer hardware and software, it's nice to have a warranty and technical support. This is why I dont build machines for anyone but myself anymore.

Also, the iMac is probably a great machine for what you want to do with it. It's going to be pricey, and you didn't state your OS preference, but they are well made machines.

Building isn't for everyone, but I hate it when someone is discouraged from doing it. It's not that difficult for someone with an interest to accomplish, and it's almost always the better option for someone that wants to do it.

Also, I can't count how many times my neighbors have asked me to take a look at their machine because tech support was zero help.

Don't have to deal with all the virus & antivirus bullshite with a Mac.

Macs last longer and are more user friendly IMO. They are worth the extra money IMO.

Don't have to with Windows much these days either. Activate Windows Defender and don't click on phishing emails. If anything does happen just restore from backup.

I've been running Windows since the early 90's and have had precisely one virus that forced me to restore from backup, and that only took an hour or so.

Why wouldn't you buy a dell? The company makes the best Windows laptop for the past 2 yrs now.

The Dell XPS 13 is incredible.

I'd definitely recommend a Mac over dell hardware, if your budget allows.

As far as Mac vs. PC it's all about preference. You can do a lot better than a dell Inspiron on the PC side of things though. I haven't seen them hold up well over time.

How do you know if you've never bought one?

I've had two Dell laptops over the last 13 years. Both have gone with me on nine trips to Afghanistan/Iraq/HOA. I bought them because I needed something to watch movies on more or less, and because I got two pretty good discounts on them each time. The first was an older Inspiron and other than changing the charger twice, I didn't have a single problem in six years. The second, which I still use on client site visits, is an XPS. The only thing I've done is upgrade to a bigger battery and install an SSD. Works great for everything I need, and it's about seven years old now.

So, Dell is pretty damn good in my opinion, and you're probably just talking out your arse because you couldn't solve a very basic issue you had with one "this one time".

I don't know if this fella is serious, but custom built laptops are a pain in the arse to build and are expensive as hell to buy pre-built. Go with the dell, but upgrade to a SSD

Well, the OP was not about laptops. Maybe the discussion devolved to that during the brand ignorance spewing, but nobody is suggesting building a laptop.
