No stores have them in stock and Amazon won't have any until 3/21.

How in the hell do they run out of these?

Are you telling me to get KODI (which I have) or that's why they are sold out?

I think it's because they're releasing new models of the devices. I've been waiting to get a Fire TV stick because I had a Best Buy gift card. I got an email recently from Amazon about the all new Fire TV stick. I figure they just can't produce the new models quickly enough to build up the inventory.

Up until about 6 months ago they were basically Prime/NetFlix devices. Then all of a sudden you had 3 national streaming TV services making cord cutting much more appealing to the average joe. Their demand forecasts were probably based on the previous market conditions.

Cord cutting would be a whole lot easier if ESPN switched their Apple TV and Fire TV stream from 30 fps to 60 fps. They made the switch on chromecast to 60 fps and the quality is amazing. It's slightly better than what I get from my cable box.

The restock date on Amazon got pushed back again today.

A few days for the Fire TV and two weeks for the fire stick.

Get you a Xiaomi Mi Box instead. Better anyway for Kodi.

This makes sense, it's about 1.5 years old and that's about the time span between 1st gen and 2nd gen. I was trying to find info on rumored specs for a Fire TV 3 since it's already a pretty high powered box with 4k/60FPS/802.11ac etc. I saw one blogger speculating that rather than bump the specs they might keep them the same or even strip it down a bit to sell it cheaper like they've done with Fire tablets. That does fit with Amazon's core philosophy of getting the best price for its customers and like I said, the current specs are fine. A $10-$20 price cut would sell more Fire TVs than a faster chip or other improved hardware. Adding a jack for a TV antenna is about the only hardware improvement I can see that would really drive new sales.

I just got mine in a couple days ago and it took them 10 days to ship it, now I know why. By the way, it is great and is definitely worth the wait and it is much better than the stick.

I'm getting it for PS Vue. I have the Kodi app on my TV. Works flawlessly.
