Great deal to get $20 back to order this. I can see it being fairly useful in the kitchen. Would love to be able to tell Alexa ingredients in my fridge and have it come up with a dish.

Dash Wand is a wifi enabled kitchen assistant that helps you shop AmazonFresh and millions of everyday essentials on Amazon.com.

Groceries have never been easier. All new Amazon Dash Wand with Alexa helps you find recipes, convert cups to ounces, buy and reorder essentials, find nearby restaurants and more.
Purchase Dash Wand for $20 and get $20 off your next purchase after you register the device. *
Prime members in select areas can try AmazonFresh free for 90 days (normally $14.99 per month). **
Say it or scan a barcode. It’s added to your shopping cart. Just say “paper towels.”
Water-resistant, durable design, and magnetic so you can stick it on your fridge. You'll need an iPhone or Android phone to register the device.

The reviews for it aren't very promising.

I ordered one to act as a sort of mobile amazon echo/dot. In a room that doesn't have one, I can use it to turn on/off lights etc. in my house that I have setup for Alexa to do.

I ordered one for the same reason. As a Prime member, it's basically "free" after the $20 credit, so why not?

Will this thing be able to have firmware type updates?

I was reading about people scanning like a jar of mustard and it adding a 6 pack of the mustard to their cart. I assume firmware type things will fix these issues .

Got mine in. Pretty cool. Like others said, it adds weird quantities. Sometimes it's a single but way overpriced. I like it because it's a free Alexa companion. Maybe the scan feature will get better.

I got mine yesterday and noticed the same things you did.

Once Amazon fully takes over Whole Foods and other stores, the grocery prices will even out.
