This is a damn good price for a 10inch 1080p screen. In the past you could blow the amazon custom stuff away and load another version of Android.

Those things were a damn nightmare. Went cheap and got the last ones for my nieces and it's hilarious how bad they were. but thats what you get for buying cheap

I bought the 8 around Easter for my daughter. I was able to load the google play store on it, but was not able to root it to load another version of Android.
There are a few things I don't like about the way Amazon has it set up. It uses your family as you have it set up on Amazon to configure users. My daughter is the only one that uses this tablet, so I'd like to remove my account and my wife's account from it. I haven't figured out how to load the google play store under my daughter's account, so she is always logged on as me.
The offers aren't that big of a deal as they just appear on the lock screen.

yeah i used to use the fire tablets. got my first ipad this summer and it was well worth the extra money. can't imagine ever going back to one of those things. good for kids and teens though.

i'm not talking laptop replacement; we have started issuing surface pros to employees rather than crappy dell laptops and they're the shite.

Not looking forward to the day my kid's Nexus 7 craps out. Probably have to deal with Samsung bloat to get decent hardware.

my wife won an ipad2 at one of those free IT lunch events at ruths chris they have like every month here 5 years ago and thats what the little 2yo plays with. not upgrading the OS to save my life. my N7 crapped out a year ago.

Look 3 posts up.
Surface runs windows 10 so it's nothing more than a lighter laptop form factor.

I bought an iPad mini 4 which I thought I would use. never did.
my 2 yr old uses it every day for youtube though.
