I've heard that most-in-one printers are garbage, but it would be convenient for me given that I need both a printer and a scanner. Does anyone have any recommendations? Am I better off just buying each separately?

Only requirement for my printer would be that it be compatible with windows 7 and can print relatively fast as I often print out packets upwards of 20 pages.

Most quality brand combo's are decent as long as you print with them pretty consistently. Ive setup a scheduled job that prints a test page 1 time per week just to keep the printer in use occasionally, since I dont print that much.

I have an Epson. Pretty damn good. It also has a phone download and wirles network setup so on any device in my house, I can print wirelessly to the printer (and kids doing homework etc) and I can print from my phone even when not home.

Cheap all-in-one's are crap.

Get a laserjet and a Fujitsu ScanSnap

If this is mostly for home use, just buy an all in one.

If for business use, by an HP Laserjet and a Canon Scanner

I have a wireless laser brother all in one(don't know the model # offhand, it's b&w and retails for about $199) and absolutely love it

ya, my 1st laserjet was a single sided brother printer
I was pretty happy with it.
but
I've had this HP ever since and for quite some time now....refill the cartridges myself, and it just keeps going and going like the energizer bunny

Don't want to start a new thread so figured I might piggy back on this one.

Looking for a new wireless printer for the house. Work load will be extremely small, a few pages a month is my estimation.

Any suggestions? See HP, Epson, Canon, and Brother. Smaller the better for this printer.

We bought an HP all in one and I'm surprised I haven't tossed that son of a bitch in the dumpster yet. My wife prints about 3 sheets a week and every month it says the ink cartridges are low and won't allow you to print with just black if the colors are low. It also randomly does a self check and sometimes at 3am and it's currently in our bedroom. I'll never buy another hp all in one.

My Brother all-in-one used to do that too. I'm not sure why it stopped but it would scare the crap out of me.

Thanks for suggesting this, I am looking into it. I currently have an Epson nx420 and it drives me crazy how slow this thing prints :1stworldproblems:

I don't see anywhere, is the scanner able to auto-load pages or do you have to feed 1 at a time?
