Can these be found at home stores? Best Buy? Mine is starting to play both sets of speakers no matter what buttons are pushed. Would rather not order if I can just find one in town.

Probably best bet is a Radio Shack.

I think I've seen these at Wal Mart before. You can check their website for your local store (I started looking for it but then realized without looking in your specific store, it's not really indicative of if it's online or in store only)

If you do go online, I bought the Monoprice one and am happy with it.

I don't remember if mine has 1 or 2 inputs, but I have a 4 output switch in my garage. Currently only have garage and back patio hooked up to it, but the original plan was to run speakers outside the front of the garage.

I have one from Monoprice with the volume controls. Can someone please explain to me how to set it up? Their instructions are awful.

I have the speaker wires setup to the receiver. Now I have no idea where to put them in the selector. A in/outs and B in/outs, black/red wires, L/R... Please advise

Went to multiple places during lunch. No go. I got a cheap one from Monoprice. Thanks for the suggestion.

Can you post a picture or link your model? You're describing maybe a matrix switch (multi in, multi out?)

A "basic" switch will have a single input and multiple outputs. I'll talk as if you will only have one input/source unless you post something that shows different.
You'll go from the speaker output of your receiver to the "A" input of your switch. I would think it's obvious, but let's go really basic. You want the "left" and "red" output from the receiver to go to the "left" and "red" input on the distributor switch. The cabling does not matter what color the cable is. Obviously, if one is red and one is black, or one carries a "+" and the other a "-", you should match that to the terminal on the switch and receiver, but it isn't necessary...they are just markers and nothing more. The cables are the same.

So once you have the appropriate outputs (two pairs of wires- for the left (1) and right (2) speakers) plugged into the switch, you'll want to plug the outputs from the switch to your speakers.

From there, I would need to see the device. Mine is simple. It has A/B outputs. It allows me to turn either or both on or off.

Yours may have buttons as well, but it adds the volume control (or controls all the zones just by the knob- I do not know), and possibly more zones. Turn the desired zone volume up and toggle the switch, if present, to the "on" position. Assuming you have your receiver on and audio playing, you should then hear it in the assigned zone.

Just installed this. Wow, what a difference from the POS Radio Shack one I had before. That thing must have corroded or something. Thanks all!

This is very helpful so far! This is the selector I have. The speaker wires are already hooked up to the receiver so all I need is to hook up to the selector.

Maybe this will help. Let me know what is not clear or if you have any further difficulty.
You'll go from a total of 2 speaker wires (left and right (each of which has + and - leads)) to 6 (receiver to switch, switch to zone A, switch to zone B, all x2 for L/R, and then again each with a + and - lead)
