60 Minutes on Sunday aired an Inside Apple special with correspondent Charlie Rose that included interviews with a number of Apple's senior executives alongside closer looks at Apple's secretive design studio, camera lab, mock next-generation Apple Store and under construction Campus 2 project.

quote:

The segment revealed that Apple senior director Graham Townsend leads a team of 800 engineers and specialists working on the iPhone's camera. Townsend showed Rose a micro suspension system that stabilizes the camera when its owner's hand shakes, and explained how Apple engineers calibrate the camera.

800 people working just on the iPhone camera?

Watched it last night - was a great piece.

Takeaways:
1. THey are building a huge arse circular HQ's to house 13,000 employees
2. Their CEO is gay which I didn't know
3. They still have child labor issues
4. FOXCONN installed......get this......nets to catch the potential suicidal folks. Cool but creepy. I wonder if people are going to peek our their window to see if anyone jumped.
5. Apple continues to dominate
6. Oh.....and they have $200B overseas that they won't be bringing back anytime soon due to our outrageous taxes

Yep. They said China alone is 2/3 of their entire customer base. That's crazy. The story of them setting up subsidiaries in Ireland to avoid the international money being taxed was really interesting. I had no idea that was a thing.

I didn't see the story, so I don't know exactly what was said, but I'm sure it was more than just international money that they were avoiding paying taxes on. I bet the companies is Ireland own a lot of patents that the US company pays royalties to, moving money out of the country and avoiding US tax.

Ireland

The EU has been investigating the legality of Ireland's deal with Apple, which was to pay 2.5% in tax instead of 12.5%. If they rule against them, Apple could owe 10 years of back taxes at the higher rate, as much as $19 billion.
