Does the apple watch support Apple pay? Because if it did I'm buying it first day. I looooooove Apple pay but hate pulling out my 6+ to use it.

Yes. It will even work with the 5S that doesn't do Apple Pay on its own.

Few more details on the battery life. Apparently they've improved it but it's still not great: LINK

2.5-4 hours for heavy app usage, versus 19 hours per day of combined usage between light app access, notifications, and Glances

You quoted the wrong line

quote:

Sources who have handled the Apple Watch tell us that Apple has improved the device’s battery life, noting that the final Apple Watch should be able to handle 5 hours of fairly heavy application usage, and it and won’t run out of battery during a typical day of mixed active and passive use.

It’s just a mirror for your iPhone (and useless without it)

Does that make it any less useful? Not having to pull my phone out of my pocket or having to leave it on the table at a meeting would be great. And that's not completely true considering I remember reading it will have storage, albeit small.

quote:

Insufficient battery life

While I'd love for it to have better than a day of battery life, I don't see that as insufficient. I read standby has a good 19 hours or so and considering I'd basically use it as a notification center for my hand, I don't imagine myself sitting there for longer than 5 minutes on it at a time. Read a text, email, and then be done.

quote:

Better cheap alternatives

I don't need a "cheap alternative." Why would i buy anything else when I have an iPhone that would pair perfectly with it?

quote:

Its technology will go obsolete within 1-2 years

If anyone used that as a reason to never get anything..then you'd never buy a piece of tech.

quote:

Even Apple executives weren't so pleased about the Watch

Based on a single excerpt from an interview? lol ok.

I don't know why people spend time telling other people what they should or shouldn't buy. I can't wait to get one honestly.

So it doesn't have a built-in heart-rate monitor that doesn't require a band be worn around your chest like others?

Many of the fitness bands out there do this as well. If you are mainly looking at getting an Apple watch for the fitness aspects of it....you are much better off looking at one of the fitness bands that have some smartwatch type features(ex: Microsoft band). That's why I went ahead and bought a Microsoft Band when they came out instead of waiting for Apple watch.

And...say I want to go for a run/hike/ride with my applewatch....gotta have my phone with me as well for it to track heart rate, steps, etc. It doesn't work independently from your phone...it mirrors your phone.

From that article...

quote:

The other thing to note here is that you have to have your phone on you if you want to use the Watch. Want to track your steps? Take your iPhone with you. The Watch doesn’t offer Wi-Fi and GPS connectivity options, and hence becomes useless without an iPhone.

You already have something better. It can tell the time, give you directions, track how many steps you take, and make phone calls. And if you really want to, you can buy a smart armband to track your body functions. Your smart phone is about a thousand times more powerful and more useful than any smart watch at this point, so you might be better off just sticking with that — for now.

i love talking heads. this guy has clearly never worn a smartwatch for 5 minutes.

i've already made several comments about how the watch works..it COMPLIMENTS your phone..doesn't replace it.

its a niche product but i really enjoy mine. i also dont ask mine to replace my phone.

That's pretty embarrassing. Heck I could come up with 5 better reasons than that.

yeah, basically my stand on smart wearables is... once you get one, you will truly understand, there is just NO going back, it's incredible.

Oddly enough, I might have started this thread, but only to show both sides of the coin. I would definitely recommend you getting one, once you get one you will understand, there is just no going back and it's really incredible having this kind of tech on your wrist.
