Would ESPN ever develop a soccer channel?

I know ita a matter of league rights and it would have to be subscription based due to lack of commercials I suppose. Would you subscribe to it if they had good games for maybe $8/month?

Depends on what leagues they got. I'd pay $8/month for HD Bundesliga coverage.

I'd pay more than that. $15ish would not bother me. If they could package together a few of good leagues, say Bundesliga, Eredivisie (which they already have), MLS, and another interesting european league, all in HD, I would pay good money.

I've always been shocked that there's no "EPL.tv" or "Bundesliga.tv" like there is for MLB, MLS, NBA, NHL, etc.

I think somebody is leaving a lot of money on the table.

I think that if given the proper marketing and English language commentating the bundesliga could catch on in America. The quality of play is comparable enough to England and Spain that it wouldn't be a 'second rate' pickup like the dutch league or SPL (sorry bhoy)

There are plenty of Americans with German roots plus the emerging Spanish presence in the league broadens the market. Espn has great HD cameras and typically do the event justice when they host soccer games/tournaments. I think common sense + their failed epl bid shows they have an interest in the soccer market. Like ESPN or not, they are a major player in American sports culture and fortunately or unfortunately the masses eat what they feed.

But I think an Espn soccer channel with a few leagues and a corresponding weekly highlights/update show would be pretty sick.

Televised soccer in America has come a long way. There are currently at least 3 soccer specific channels on most major cable providers. Pretty awesome, considering America hates soccer and it will never catch on

Also, I am waiting the DirecTV package for the EPL.

it does seem amazing that there is not a "sunday ticket" or "league pass" type of thing for the epl. is fox paying that much? is the market not quite there? feel like it's obviously one of those 2 otherwise i have no clue

Sure! They are waiting for all the wet paint in the world to dry. That should open up the market for soccer.

CL still isn't the same to me without Derek Rae.

As to the question in the OP 3-4 years ago I would have said yes but for some reason ESPN seems to be throwing in the towel on soccer which is really a shame.
