Alright guys, now that the Gold Cup is back where it belongs and over with till 2015. Lets talk about who helped themselves the most, and who's stock fell, less than a year from the World Cup, window of opportunity is closing quickly for some guys.

To start, Donovan obviously played himself to the A squad, so that's that. I also think Goodson, Corona, Bedoya, JfTorres and Wondow made strong cases for their inclusion for the next WCQ camp.

JfT showed he can be a key cog in a possession based attack, hes smooth on the ball and puts in some work defensively. also has a sweet left foot for crosses/set pieces.
Bedoya showed he is a tremendous athlete and has good vision with the ball, this tournament was my first time seeing him play and I was very impressed.
Corona showed life on the ball and was creative for us. He also has an eye for scoring, I think he could be our no.10 in the future, he looked so fluid and more comfortable when he was roaming in the middle of the park with the ball as opposed to getting it on the wing.

GAM, Beasley, Besler and Gonzo are already A teamers. I think this tournament also let USA fans who haven't seen Rimando play alot show what he can do, he's terrific with his feet as we've seen. Shea is an amoeba, Jurgy seems to love him, I think if he gets any PT at stoke this year, that Jurgy will include him on the squad next summer. He has game changing ability, we've seen that, he's far from starter material though.

What say you?

I have a lot more ups given the way we played.

Up:
Donovan - Proved he's 100% back
Wondo - Great option behind Jozy and GAM
Bedoya, Corona - Both now in the mix for the third attacking mid role in the starting 11.
Beckerman - Great in his role, as long as Jermaine Jones isn't also on the field.

Down:
Shea - He has digressed in the last two years and has a terrible touch.

Up: Donovan, Mix, Goodsen, Corona, Bedoya, Rimando

Stayed the same: Torres, Wondo (his best games were against minnows), Johnson, Shea (very inconsistent), Beckerman, Orozco

Down: Parkhurst, Herc, Onyewu, Beltran, Castillo

Indirectly went down: Danny Williams, Josh Gatt, Edu, Bocanegra, Kljestan, Boyd.

I think Mix has moved way up. He's mobile, has a great work rate, can deal with the physicality of the international game (the only thing Norway is really known for is the physical style of their domestic league), has a good passing range, and is creative. I think he has a higher upside than Torres, and is playing better than Holden right now. He's also different than Jones, Bradley, and Cameron, in that he is a more natural playmaker than those three. He'd be good to have on the squad.

Besler retained his spot as our number one center back, Donovan played himself back into a starting spot on the A team, Goodson EJ Rimando and Beasley cemented their spots on the 23. Holden(if healthy), Mix, Torres, Corona are all squarely on the bubbles. Wondo and Beckerman went from no's to outside shots based on their positions. Shea is kind of In a category of his own. He's inconsistent and makes some boneheaded moves but he's also shown an uncanny ability to unlock a game as a sub and Jurgen seems to love him

Down: Parkhurst

Disagree. He's at least as capable as Brad Evans.

Parkhurst was far better than I expected. He was stable(ish) on the defensive end, and intelligent going forward.

I have concerns physically (always have), but why not take a look against higher level competition?

I agree with all this. His tackles on defense were impressive and his work rate was unreal, iron lungs material.

I think Orozco looked solid at CB the few times we saw him, he looked like an aerial threat also.

I strongly feel that Parkhurst and Evans are placeholders for our other options at RB. I like Evans more, but Parkhurst isn't a bad option to test out in the early spring friendlies.

this was the most surprising thing to come out the GC for me, mainly because i was constantly looking for excuses to be pissed at him, and was never really able to.

bedoya and corona impressed me the most.

castillo was on his way after a couple of nice back to back games, but then he didnt see much more time.

I agree.... but as months go by, we're creeping up on "shite or get off the pot" time.

I think both Evans and Parkhurst lack that little bit of quality going forward we had for so many years. But RB might be our deepest position. If we get desperate, we can recall Spector, who honestly wasn't that bad for us, certainly no worse than Parkhurst, and certainly better going forward.

Mix played well today. Overall he did well enough to earn consideration if only b/c there's no one else really like him.

Rimando is really good.

I'm a fan of Beasley in general, but I swear watching him play its hard to imagine that he played an offensive role in the premier league and scored goals in the Champions League. I would be more forgiving of his defensive weakness if he offered a lot in the attack. I see him as not having a spot in the 11 at the WC and this tournament didn't change that.

I thought Parkhurst's stock went up. Not way up, but he was better than I thought he would be, and strangely enough it was the attacking part of his game that surprised me a bit. He's not great going forward, but he's a bit better there than I thought he was.

I don't know who plays right back if something happens to Dolo and Chandler, but I feel a bit better about Parkhurst than I did before this tournament started.

At RB, we have:

Dolo
Chandler
Spector
Lichaj
Evans
Parkhurst

It's probably the last position I'm worried about. It's great that we have so many options.

Agree with most everything said in here.

Was just thinking its crazy how Matt Besler wasnt even in the US picture until recently and he is already our best CB. Dude is just solid.

Probably most surprising performance of the gold cup for me was Bedoya. Never realized he was that good.. And fast.

This is what I tell myself, they're our only 2 RB's that can play with the big boys...

Honestly I thought Goodson's stock went slightly up. I don't hate any American player, but I've never liked him. Pointless Goodson hoofs could be a drinking game, but I even thought his distribution was a bit better this tournament.

At this point I"m not totally sure that there's a huge difference between him and Omar. Both traditional good in the air center backs that can have trouble with good movement. Omar pretty clearly has a higher ceiling, but he also does some boneheaded stuff almost every single game.

At this point it looks like the competition is who pairs with Besler.
