What kind of impact would a USA World Cup win have on soccer in America?

In your opinion how would it impact the game here and how would you react if the US ever does win a World Cup?
For me, I think the USA winning the World Cup would cement that the beautiful game is here to stay(I think it already is though). It would create a ton of new soccer fans, young kids who never thought about playing would pick up the game, more Americans as a whole would pay attention to the game year round, not just every 4 years.
If we ever win you can bet tears will be shed. It would be amazing scenes in cities across the US

Winning a World Cup would mean much more than even the World Cup in 94 that we hosted. The funny thing is there are so many kids playing soccer here already. I think I read somewhere that there are more girls playing in the US than the rest of the world combined. And with parents more concerned about brain damage in football you'll see more and more players signing up to play. The only difference is kids didn't take it as seriously as baseball or football. If the US wins a World Cup there won't be enough soccer fields in North America.

It would legitimize the sport in America. A lot of people would hop on the bandwagon, that's for sure.

I honestly don't think it would change much. Soccer is already a legitimate sport in this country, and people do love it. The problem is most of the people here who like soccer are all euro soccer snobs, and probably still won't give attention to the domestic game.
Real change is occurring right now in communities. In the MLS 3.0 cities. When local media is on board, the community rallies behind their teams, and the result is packed stadiums. I'm talking about cities like SKC, Portland, Seattle, Atlanta, and Orlando. Soccer is a very big sport in these cities, and they are featured in local news segments. Contrast that with other cities like Dallas, Chicago, Boston where it is considered to be something of a badge of honor when the news anchors claim to not even know that MLS exists, or that their city even has a team. The curse of MLS 1.0.
What will it take for soccer become big in those cities? Honestly, I have no idea. But I don't think winning a World Cup will change much from the way things are.
EDIT: Acrually, I do have an idea. Start contracting those MLS 1.0 teams, and move them to places with real actual desire. Move NE Revs to Cincinnati. Sometimes you don't realize what you have until it's actually gone.

It would spur on the growth of the game here to new heights. It's not going to happen anytime soon though.

NE could use a rebrand and a new stadium.

Would help accelerate the inevitable rise of soccer to sports hedgemony in the US. Would facilitate numerous corporate sponsorships and the lay person would understand that they are now supposed to like and watch soccer so, like good sheep, they would oblige.
The NFL will be so crippled with concussion and pain killer litigation they won't be able to defend their flank.
In 20 years soccer will be the most popular game in the us.

Absolutely. But I don't think Bob Kraft has enough fricks to give. What if MLS just buys out the team like they did Chivas USA, and instead of ending the franchise MLS sells the franchise to Cincinnati, Sacramento, or San Diego? That's 1 less empty stadium, and 1 more packed stadium every other weekend. Let Boston have their Patriots, Celtics, Bruins, and Red Sox.

Except the revs are a marquee franchise for MLS, but I agree with your sentiment. They need a soccer specific stadium.

Are they? You could say they were, but what have they done since people started paying attention to the league? Made the finals in 2014 or so, but are back to 8th place in the East right now.
If I look at the league, the Revolution is not one of the teams that would first come to mind.

I think soccer in America has already been legitimized. Look at the progression from the 94 World Cup to now. People care. And in recent years - 2010 and 2014 - more and more fans have joined in.
Now to answer your question - can't even fathom the impact of a Cup win. Would be incredible to witness that as a country.

Actually the more I think about it the more I think that the better question should be how do we get NE to care. Rebrand and SSS is obviously steps 1, and 2. But I still don't think that's enough to overcome 20 years of negative culture against the club? Regardless, they aren't going to take the team away from Kraft after he helped save the league. That, and Boston is the 7th largest tv market for MLS. They will never give that up as the growth MLS is predicated on tv growth. They need all the major markets for that to work.

if we won the world cup, that would mean that soccer was already huge stateside.

yeah! frick those bean town counts.

We will win a World Cup one day. It's inevitable. Could be 100 years from now, but it is an inevitable result.
Posted on 4/27/17 at 9:46 am to pvilleguru
I think the Revs only appear on national TV twice this year. Probably the fewest in the league. That is not a marquee team.

I'm actually in a group text with some friends, and I think we have the NE solution.
So New England has never really been considered a Boston team. Same problem in Dallas. Let's say they build a new stadium in Boston proper. Ditch the whole Revolution / New England Patriots motif. Ditch the Rev name, and slap some green shamrocks on their kits. Go all in on the Irish theme. Americans love that shite. Especially Bostonians. Sign some Irish players. Maybe Shane Long? Robbie Brady? Better yet, sign Wayne Rooney. He has that Merseyside grit. Tap into that blue collar mentality with the players you sign.
I think people start to give a frick if something like that happened.

Yeah, rebranding as the Boston ____ would probably be a better draw.
Should have went the route of the Celtics and Bruins instead of the Patriots.

Look at how popular the USWNT got during their WC run, after having won it before, now multiple it by 100 and that's the impact it would have. They would sell a victory tour out in seconds after. It would at least peak the interest of the sports fan who only cares about soccer every 4 years to follow whoever the star of the USMNT is at the time career.
