I want to pick an EPL team to follow and ive narrowed it down to these two.

im a novice soccer fan and curious as to who you would compare them to for an American sports team?

don't want the trendy pick, not the type to pick the Yankees, lakers, etc

TIA

Chelsea is the Yankees. Pick Everton. But watch Tottenham Hotspur play Liverpool tomorrow. You might fall in love.

You're a bit of a dick, aren't you? Why so insecure? Why not be helpful and politely tell him both are very popular?

Looking for some sort of symmetry between American sports and European soccer is idiotic.

Then say it politely. There are websites that do those comparisons rather frequently.

Besides, you know exactly what he means and could provide the answer without a comparison.

Doesn't mean you need to be an a-hole towards someone just asking a question.

No. There's not this many goals every week. Also don't pick a team based on what you think other people will say to you about your choice. Support who you like watching.

Chelsea is owned by a Russian oligarch. They went from being a middling-crap club supported by the London working class to one of the "power" clubs overnight.

City is owned by Middle Eastern oligarchs. They went from being a middling-crap club supported by the Manchester working class to one of the "power" clubs overnight.

Also, Chelsea's captain is a guy who teased American tourists at Heathrow airport about the twin towers attacks shortly after they happened on 9/11. He also fricked his defensive partner's baby mama and was stripped of the English captaincy. He's pure class.

Not to mention that Chelsea is bolstered by dirty Russian oil money from their billionaire owner with close ties to Vladimir Putin.

Lastly, TN is a frickwad to everyone. Don't let him get under your skin. He's literally the most hated person on this board.

It's just hard to like a club that's owned by a guy that reminds you of a Bond villain.

2 FA Cups, A League Cup, A Cup Winners' Cup, and a Super Cup between 1995-2000. Can't win anything without Roman's Oil Money though.
