Just took a goal away from Dallas for a 'foul' the ref missed 60 yards back.

The reason it's at joke, is that if a goal isn't scored 3 passes and 15 seconds later, that foul is never reviewed.

And it just sent off Kaka for joking with an old teammate.

MLS not being a good test league for this

There will be speed bumps, but this won't be going away, so hopefully the referees get better at using this with experience.

Offside technology needs to come next. I'm surprised that's taken so long with how much tech has improved.

MLS is a perfect test league for this, they are in a place that has video review in all other sports. All soccer is going to have a adjustment period with this, that's not an MLS specific issue.

MLS can figure out what works and what doesn't without the breathless dumbass punditry you would get in the UK

You know those miCoach pad things the players put in the cleats to track movement, passes, etc?

I imagine tiny GPS pads like that located in the toes, heels, and shoulders of every player. Combined with a "smart ball" that also has GPS tracking, the computer could instantly track the position of every attacking player in relation to the 2nd last defender and know immediately if a receiving player is offside and communicate that to the officials.

Maybe some laser system that follows the sidelines could work too, but in real time, not just on TV replays.

With how fast nanotechnology is developing, I think my crazy idea could become a reality soon. Most of the technology needed for it already exists.

All it will take is a missed offside call in a big match, and I guarantee people will ask for offside technology, just like the Frank Lampard travesty in 2010 resulted in goal-line technology.

You gotta blame the shitty officials for that one more so than VAR.

Kaka's red card will surely be rescinded tomorrow by the Disciplinary Committee. Even the New York players didn't want him sent off.

They would essentially need a full body suit to detect every part of the body that can be offside. That's not going to happen.

I should have clarified. When I said "in the heels and toes of the players" I mean in the cleats, kind of like how the miCoach pads are inserted into a hole of the soles now.

A lot of players wear the heart monitor vests under the jerseys during practice and games already, so my imaginary technology might work kind of like that. Minimally intrusive so that the players don't even think about all the GPS units in their uniform.

The tech isn't at that level yet, but every year, nanotechnology is getting smaller, better, and cheaper. It's only a matter of time before it gets applied to sports. I fully expect something in the ballpark from what I've described to be developed and tested in the not-so-distant future, maybe by the military.

It's stupid to wave a goal off due to a missed foul. Also what kind of shite is starting it midleague. They should have waited until next season.

IMO only off-sides and did the ball cross the goal should be reviewed.
