For a country that hates socialism it runs deep in our sports

quote:

The USWNT financial numbers are in, and the women are due for a big payday despite an early exit from the Women’s World Cup. Last year, the US Soccer Federation, the USWNT, and the USMNT came to an agreement that the women’s and the men’s team would split their revenues equally after US Soccer recouped their fees. The main reason for the historic deal was because everyone felt that FIFA’s pay structure was unfair to the women.

quote:

According to Sportico’s Emily Caron, the USWNT will take home over $7 million despite bringing in $3.25 million in revenue thanks to the newly formed revenue split.

Take home double the money they actually earned

quote:

some USWNT math: the U.S. will take home $3.25 million for its round of 16 exit. that’ll be added to the $13m the men’s team earned in Qatar. 10% of the $16.25m total will go to U.S. soccer + the remaining $14.625m will be shared equally between both squads (~$298k per player),”

The big reason they pushed for equal pay so hard is they actually relied on money from the national team as their primary source of income.

Doesn’t help when USSF holds the ladies back forcing them to play in the NWSL

Men need to sue, they would have an easy case. All they do is use the women's teams own arguments to win.

It hamstrings the federation’s ability to do certain things with the men’s team

Also the court case damn near bankrupt the USSF

It baffles me that the men's team agreed to this bullshite. Athletes are essentially entertainers. There is no one person that has the same job as another. Even in the corporate world...every person is different. But in entertainment, you as an individual are compensated based on people willing to pay money to see you play. There is no such thing as "equal pay" in entertainment, because of this.

What are the consequences if they were to stand up and call out the bullshite? Wouldn't every media talking-head immediately condemn them as "sexist" and "homophobic?"

Outside of that, what? Do you honestly think it would negatively affect their bottom line - Merch, TV viewership and tickets?

Yeah, a player who the media labels “sexist” may have a more difficult time finding a club.

I don’t think this is true anymore. I think it was just a product of the old contract, which again the women argued for before calling it all sexist.

The problem with that is that the media would have to label the whole team as "sexist" whilst also admitting that no other men's program in the world has this arse backwards model. All our starters already play for clubs in Europe. Nothing would happen to them.

Yea the old CBA required them to play in the NWSL

That’s why I said their dependence on national teams money as income

The new agreement not requiring playing the NWSL is going to hurt the quality of the league

Fan support in these other leagues is much better as well

You should care. The precedent that it has set will affect lots of other things, including the men’s team.

It would never get mentioned by the media. They lie by omission with literally everything.

And the lemmings eat it up with stuff like the above drooling idiots that have no idea the implications of "glad they got it".

I dont see it as such.. they work every bit as hard and are more successful than the men's team..

No one is going to see any of the men's individual, mediocre players... they are going to see a national team (yes, I get men's sports will be more popular)... Hell, often times the crowds are paying to see another national team..

It's better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than open it and remove all doubt.
