It doesn't help that they REALLY want to win the upcoming Olympics in Rio.

and to be clear, I'm not saying that means coaches should be above criticism, but in soccer, when you're extremely outmanned, often times it looks a bit like what we're seeing. would it be wise to have our fullbacks bombing forward and running a bunch of overloads in the midfield, breaking our shape, knowing our midfield doesn't have the technical quality to handle their press? that's how things get ugly. sure it sounds nice to say we should be more positive with our tactics but it's just not all that realistic in a matchup like this. it'd be like Rayo vallecano against Barcelona.

it's not an easy problem to solve. sometimes I don't think American fans really appreciate how wide the gap in talent still is. I think the mls press, through their efforts to to build up the league, which I'm all for, contribute to this misconception, but that's probably a better topic for another day.

Hurt, but I don't think he had been playing much before that.

Barca won't like it, but he is definitely playing. We are a top 18-30 team depending on form.

We could at least start a true striker. That would be a step up.

Yeah, because soccer isn't a team sport or anything.

he's definitely one of our best prospects, but we're us, and they're Brazil.

and Shelton may not be a true striker but if you think it would make a difference in the context of this game, I dunno what to tell you. and who would you suggest? not exactly anything out there that would move the needle.

Swapping Shelton and Jerome would be a start.
