"One of our main hopes when establishing the U.S. Soccer Residency Program was that at some point advancements in youth player development would make its existence no longer necessary -- we believe that point has been reached," USSF president Sunil Gulati said in a statement on Friday.

quote:

"The DA has now been around for 10 years and players are taught to play, hold the ball and be creative. There is a clear 'training over games' mentality of learning the game properly"

It bugs me when US Soccer does this patting itself on the back thing, giving themselves credit for "educating America" on how to teach soccer the right way. It's just a small thing, but it's a small thing amongst many other small things US Soccer does that just kind of rubs me the wrong way.

Huh? The u-17 program was the first residency program of it's kind in the US. The reason it's shutting down is because MLS clubs are now sustaining youth residencies.

US Soccer should definitely be patting itself on the back for having the foresight to start this in America.

I know I know. It's the tone of it that irked me, not the content. And then I pictured those words coming out of Sunil Gulati's big bobble head that sits on top of that tiny body What can I say, he bugs me. I don't like him as the face of our federation. Small time mentality. The academy system that the Bradenton project kickstarted is still miles behind the rest of the soccer world, and he's talking about it like it was a revolutionary idea of his. To me, he embodies the reasons soccer might not reach it's potential while I'm still young.

That's not my issue I don't care about that. Everyone in that world is corrupt. You would be too. You have to play the game. I guess he's just not good enough at it. He let fricking Qatar out-corrupt him and take a World Cup from us that we really wanted. Embarrassing.
