Lol we could have Pep coaching and this result would be the same.

This wasn’t a case of tactics, this was us being outclassed in talent

It’s still wild to me that their bench players are every game starters for Bayern and BvB. Our starters are bench players at that level. Our bench players are bit players for Wolfsburg and PSV.

The second Gundogan equalized you could see all of our players assholes pucker.

We played scared from that point on

Almost like they have a several decade head start on developing their soccer programs.

That will always be the case though. Can we ever close the gap or do we just have to accept our fate? Seems the latter.

My personal belief is that we need to keep developing the clubs attached to MLS teams in order to cultivate talent. The athletic talent system in the US does a major disservice to soccer players since “great players” are able to play professionally at a very young age as evidenced by 16 year olds playing pro ball in Europe.

I will be the first to admit that my depth of knowledge for soccer is kiddie pool. I’m still lost as an Easter egg when they start laying out different formations, I just recently figured out what the 6 is actually supposed to be on the pitch.

It's a good thing they scheduled this match on a Saturday during the fall. Only 5 people watched us lose since everyone else was watching football.

Stadium looked packed to me or was it a lot of German fans in the audience?

I was only able to watch the first half on replay so far but here are my quick thoughts from that:

- our inability to play Balogun in behind is criminal. If you watch him for club you see this is something he does often and he was making these runs again this game (as well as every other game he has played for us so far) and yet we don't try that through ball to get him in. Very frustrating

- way too much reliance on "get it to the wings and hope CP and Tim make cool shite happen". Also Reyna was not very central in the attack it seemed and was receiving the ball out wide more often that not. This isolates Balogun even more

I also noticed at times Gio drifted further up than Flo was. I dunno if that was the plan or if one of them went rogue. I could understand Flo coming back to get the ball just because he wasn't getting service (like the Pulisic assist) but Gio would get stranded up top or way wide and it impacted the midfield being ripe for the counter.

Weah is always going to be a boots on the chalk winger for us but damn if we don’t get some exciting sequences from him rotating centrally (see: Wales). It would be nice to see more of this kind of play rather than get it wide, cross, and inshallah. Overall we are just too predictable in the attack.

I agree that the general isolation hampers our attack and allows the defenders to sort of box Balo out of the game, especially if Reyna isn’t pushing high too.

I've never been a Gregg hater, per se, but I think it's obvious we never should have re-hired him. If we lose to Ghana it should be over, but it probably won't be. I mean the guy was a legend at Hammarby and Columbus.

If they ever do fire him, it won't be until after Copa America and that's only if we have a really awful showing and/or widespread player mutiny.

US had 3 legit chances this half

I suspect Lund is now above Scally on the depth chart
