Michael Cox has a really good article on Lavezzi and his role at PSG... How his role (and Zlatan's) differs in Ligue 1 compared to CL... he excels in CL (Zlatan in both, cause he can play as a target man or a playmaker)

Lavezzi isn't a bad player -- in fact, he can be a very good player. But it's an alarming illustration of the importance of money in modern day football: Lavezzi is basically a disciplined, energetic attacker who plays as a permanent decoy, and yet he cost nearly £30 million.

Thanks for the link, going to read that now.

It seems a good point about Lavezzi and money. I argued with some people last summer that selling him didn't mean a step back for Napoli and their attack wouldn't miss a beat replacing him with Insigne and Pandev and not because Lavezzi isn't a very good player.

Agree with the premise about him being a decoy but he is a pretty effective one on the counter because he does one thing exceptionally well: draw defenders out of position because he can get a good touch and run past the first man in space.

(On a sidenote: This is where Alexis Sanchez playing for Barca wastes probably his best asset as he's incredible on the counter. He may well be another Eto'o / Ibra example of an elite player just not fitting that well into the rigidity of their style)

I guess Lavezzi also has that Arjen Robben move --from the opposite side-- and occasionally curls one into the far post. However, I've often thought you really only commit a second defender toward that so you don't look stupid the few times a season it goes in for Lavezzi.

Yeah, I think the Barca system stifles his best attributes.. I get that everyone wants to play there and the top players are convinced they can... He should move on..

Just read the Micheal Cox article. His stuff is always so good whether it's that he sees something you never would have or simply puts his finger right on what you have thought.

I've had a similar opinion on Lavezzi from watching Napoli so often as well as having seen a lot of PSG Ligue 1 matches on BeIn.

Not sure I agree about his thoughts on Lavessi and Barca though. His reasoning as far as understanding playing the wide role is undeniable however, not being a Barca fan, I'd love to watch Xavi, Messi and Iniesta's faces while Lavezzi was attempting wild shots from anywhere every time he got the ball with an inch of space. I would like to see them get Hulk for the same reason.

On Sanchez: haven't really heard his name mentioned as often as it was this winter so maybe Barca seems set on keeping him now. However, if he leaves, he may be the best transfer someone gets this summer.

So the real CL final is in one semifinal (Barca vs. Bayern)

Which isn't to say that Dortmund vs REal won't be a great game too.

Should be some fund games to watch.

I wouldn't say that, I think all 4 of these teams are capable of winning it all without much of a stretch. Kind of sucks that BvB and Real already played each other but they were good games so I'm ok with it.

and SF1 is the battle of Pep.

Yea Real have no chance vs. either. Or even Dortmund in a one-off.

I'm not saying that all four aren't capable of winning it.

But two of these teams are runaway winners for their leagues title, which includes the other two teams in this equation.

They are the better two teams.
