Would love it. Hopefully this is true. Huw has been in South America negotiating so we will see how soon this becomes official if so

Did pretty well at Athletic Bilbao before they sold or lost their best players

He took Chile back to the World Cup in 2010 after a couple of absences.

I really like his tactics, even though he's cut his own throat with them in the past. That 3-3-3-1 is really cool to watch when it gets clicking.

How does that formation even work?

Also, I had a friend from my time in Marseille who was the best player I've ever played with, who was playing with Marseille's second team and was set to sign a first team contract but then tore his quad tendon and then hurt his shoulder. He's pissed Bielsa left because apparently Bielsa has watched him practice with the reserves and really liked him apparently. I know, CSB.

Normally 3 CBs
Then 3 CMs with either 1 or 2 being a CDM
Then an attacking MF flanked by wingers and a striker up top

It's very high energy all attack all defend type stuff

Bielsa quit on Marseille after Match Day 1.

If the Swansea board pisses him off, he may do the same with you.

He coached a full season and then after they sold off Dmitri Payet, Andre-Pierre Gignac and Andre Ayew (3 of his best players) he told them to F off. There was probably not a good relationship there

I don't expect this to be a long term hire if we make this because the guy is a bit of a loon. But with managers it's a two way street - you can't undermine what they are doing by selling off every good player you have

They sold those players because they didn't make the Champions League. Meaning Bielsa underachieved.

The problem with Bielsa is that he expects an insane amount of fitness from his players. I remember in the 2010 or 2011 Copa Del Rey final he had his Bilbao team man mark each Barca player. Not only was that an insane strategy, but it also meant his players were basically running all game. Tactically he is very astute and understands the game on a real deep level. What he asks of his players through the course of the season destroys them for the next season. He doesn't rotate enough and he's stubborn in the way he plays.

They also lost to a 4th division team in the Coupe de France.

What he said.

The CMs on the outside of the CDM serve as box-to-box guys that play like inverted wingbacks. Arturo Vidal was one of those.

Here's a Zonal Marking look at it from 2010:

This is also a good time to laugh at DS for saying Florian Thauvin would lead Newcastle into Europe.

Didn't he quit Bilbao because of an argument with a construction worker at the training grounds, only to reverse field on that days later?

I'd go after Sampaoli instead...
