I love it. Unless they planned on nobody ever wearing the #8 again, this seems like a great choice with the kind of talent Keita is. Reading his interviews this morning, he most def knows the significance of it and appreciates it

So Keita is confirmed at our new #8... Not sure how I feel about that

Gerrard personally handed him the number. Unless they were going to retire the 8 forever, Keita seems as logical an heir apparent as anyone else.

As long as they told my sweet baby Keith that if he wears #8 he can never leave the club.

Anyone wondering what type of player @LFC have signed in Naby Keita, had confirmation that the training session at Melwood today with fitness coach Conall Murtagh was at his own request. He's not due to start officially until July 2. #commitment

I agree, and didn't know about Gerrard personally handing it to him,but my thought was honestly having no one wear the number ever again... I get I'm young so I don't remember the olden days, but Gerrard is easily my favorite LFC player of my lifetime

It's different in soccer with such popular numbers. And if 8 was retired for Gerrard, then you'd have to do it to 7 for Dalglish and 9 for Rush. But then 3 of the most popular numbers for attackers/midfielders would be gone.

If anyone was gonna be the first person to take it after Gerrard, it should be Keita.

Always hard to tell with those kids but he did have a lot of biggish names competing to sign him allegedly.

Nonetheless, you should be more excited about Brewster than him

I've always heard that all of The Beatles were blue, unfortunately.

I read something that each top 6 wanted him, so for him to pick us seems pretty damn positive.

that can backfire too.. I started the one where we came 2nd and that logic was applied to the next season thread... we sold Suarez, crashed out of the group stages of the UCL and finished 6th..

Seriously, I don't care who starts it, but I think it should be done tomorrow... Byrd man, you up for it? I enjoy the WC, but I am so ready to complete transfers and start the new season..

if he doesn't want that weight on him, I'll volunteer to do it... To be fair when you did that we had Brendan Rodgers not Klopp as manager and our transfer business was usually pretty shite

Pretty sure I’ve said this somewhere earlier in this thread, but Klopp should call Leicester and offer them 40-50 for Schmeichel and make them say no.

I think I am going to pass on starting the thread this time around, I feel I have been around for the buildup and now it is time to kick back and watch the benefits!

Unless anyone just insists that I do it because of superstition, I’ll let someone else get in on the fun.
