Our CBs just can’t score on headers

Oxlade-Chamberlain showed real quality in that build-up too.

How Matip can consistently miss these headers is just baffling to me. Hopefully it clicks for him eventually.

We looked like a completely different team in the second half. I know getting that goal made them come out a little bit more, but we played with a lot more urgency and purpose going forward.

It was, indeed, a tale of 2 halves.
I think one of the bright spots of the game was the solid play of Milner and Wij box-to-box today. Solid on defense and solid going forward. I point this out as a difference between today and the vast void in midfield vs. Tottenham.
Also Gomez just seems to be getting better and better every game he plays. He’s got to be moving inside soon, right?

I mean he basically played as a RCB in a back 3 today. Even Moreno really didn't wander as far forward today either so Klopp was obviously playing pretty safe to prep against counters. That said, our spacing was still very shitty at times when we had the ball with 4 or 5 people all clustered around the center circle

Yeah, I'd have to imagine so, he's quickly becoming a really solid defender out there

And I think this next match would be a perfect situation to try Matip/Gomez.

I'd bring him along very slowly... don't want to shatter his confidence, given his partner and lack of shielding from the MF...

Lots of people have noticed we had a more true back 3 look while in possession this past week - Gomez hung back quite a bit more and his touch chart shows it.
I think its a great move - Hendo is not great against counter-attacks unless he stops them immediately as his first step is to the ball and that allows him to be beaten immediately (or shut it down immediately). By keeping Gomez back, it allowed Hendo to close down on any counter, but still keep 3 behind the ball (instead of 2 when Hendo is in the back 3 during our possession).
The draw back is that its one less person in attack, and at times Salah seemed isolated in the first half on Saturday - but I would expect a full squad with Mane, Cou, etc. would be better in attack. Interested to see if its kept around in the coming weeks against some of the minnows.

yeah, there was definitely a shift in possession... I like that tactic given Joe is very limited in attack...
Hell, I wouldn't be opposed to going to a true back 3 in certain matches with Ox as the RWB...

I absolutely don't expect the walk-in-the-park that Maribor presented in Slovenia at Anfield today, boys.
My prediction is they're going to park the bus and park it solid and pack it in and do their best to leave with a 0-0 result or (if they think they can get one on a counter) 0-1.
Reds are gonna have to work for their suppers today. Lets get all 3 points dammit!
