I actually heard an interesting formation idea on Counter Attack a week or two ago. Someone suggested using 5 defenders with 3 CBs (possibly Besler, Cameron, and JAB). This would give Fab and Beasley/Chandler more freedom to push forward knowing there's an extra player to cover for them. You could still sit a Beckerman or Jones in front of the 3 CBs.

We did it with Gonzalez. Chandler went forward. We conceded a penalty

IMO, leave that shite to the Italians, Egyptians, and Michael Parkhurst

Yeah I think it was just about trying to keep a lead, something we have struggled with in games against Turkey and Nigeria. I don't think we have the possession acumen to pack it in and protect a lead. In this case I think our best defense is our offense.

Of course it didn't look too good shortly after switching formations and players late in a game.

I don't think Ghana is necessarily that much better of a team than the Nigerian team we played on Saturday. Ghana certainly has a better attack than any team that features Shola Ameobi (Emineke likely starting notwithstanding), but defensively Nigeria is probably better.

Here's Ghana's projected Starting XI for reference.

Essien and Andre Ayew may start in place of Rabiu--or Muntari-- and Dede respectively.

Muntari is half the player he was in 2010, as is Essien, although he missed that World Cup.

I'm concerned about our midfielders against KBP. Gyan is a bit of a wild card, considering he hasn't played a meaningful competitive game since the African qualifying playoff round.

Jozy should be able to bully that defense and Zusi and Bedoya certainly can beat Ghana's fullbacks.

I wasn't being entirely serious. I'm just not sure that it's something that I want to see

I felt Bedoya would make the team all along, and once L.D. was cut I had him in my starting 11, his defensive work rate is the difference imho.

Beas starts every game I assume, that position is better off than we imagined though I wish we had brought another wide back besides Yeldin, I don't see him contributing.

Does anyone else find it peculiar that we will be scrimmaging with Belgum, a possible round of 16 opponent ?

Can't say I don't wonder about what this team might look like with shades, but life a.d. started 3 games ago.

We are sharing a base camp with them.

and Nigel de Jong isn't on their team. Though he mainly hates Xabi Alonso and Stuart Holden. He started what kept Holden from making this team.

Watching this Ghana/Korea match and I will be disappointed if we don't score 2 or 3 goals next week. That backline is so disjointed and their keeper is making some risky/boneheaded moves. If Korea had any decent player in its final third, they would have a couple of goals right now.

I'm always concerned about KPB. My biggest fear is a Kyle Beckerman giveaway in a dangerous position. our defensive midfielder giving away possession in our half cost us 2 WC games against Ghana.

Also, while he's faced shitty shitty competition, Gyan has scored over a hundred goals in that league, and I think that that kind of form at least counts for something. Beasler and Cameron aren't as slow as Demerit/Boca, so hopefully they won't get beat straight down the middle a la 2010.
